Default Hi everyone, I am new here

Hi everyone, I am new here but I have been reading your posts for quite awhile. I am 3 weeks post op and have lost 17 lbs so far. My problem is that I cannot tolerate anything except water. The first week I was severely nauseated, it seemed to get alittle better but now if I try to eat or drink anything it makes me sick. I have the symptoms of the dumping syndrome but have it whith anything. I am by no means getting the required protein. My surgeon says that this sometimes happens and as long as I can keep water down I will be ok. But he did tell me to try somehow to get the protein in. Has this happened to anyone else?

Alt Weight Loss Surgery Insurance
Yes, you can often get insurance cover for your Weight Loss Surgery.
Our own Craig "Big-T" Thompson has been there and done that, and he's written an e-book about it.

Hi. Welcome. I havent experienced any sickness at all. what are you trying to eat and drink? just curious. I dont think you can dump unless it contains sugar. maybe the whole where your intestine meets your stomach is too small. i think they have called it stricture. I am not too familiar with it. as i said i have had no illness what so ever. But your surgeon should be concerned that you arent keeping anything down but water. You need all of the protein and nutrients you can get at this time. Please be careul as you may become dehydrated or malnourished. Please contact your surgeons office again to make sure they dont want you to go into the office.

You may be trying to eat to fast or the wrong thing. Start with something mushy and take it slow and easy!!

Welcome to the board, thank you for joining us.
Congratulations on joining the Loser's Bench.

Be sure to sip, not gulp, it may be that you are trying to get things in too fast, but if water is the only thing you can tolerate, it might be best to have an endoscopic exam done to rule out a stricture.
Of course it may just be that your pouch is taking a bit longer than the norm to settle down, but keep bugging your surgeon until you are doing better.

(((((((HUGS))))))) May your journey go well.

Default Hello louann!

The things that happen in the very beginning, sometimes can be very nerve racking. We always get paranoid....that is normal. I was lucky. I never had any probs at all when I had my surgery, but by reading all the posts on this awesome site, it seems to be not uncommon. The people that are concerned about it, turn out just fine. I know you will to. I think it is just the body, adjusting to the major body change it had just underwent. Keep doing what you are doing right now, and listening to your surgeon's protocol, and you will do GREAT!!!!!

Default Me Too!

I am sorry for your problems. I too have struggled. I am one month post opp, and most things I eat give me pain. I am supposed to be on soft solids starting tomorrow, but I know I am not ready. I live in New York, and I have lost about 23 lbs in four weeks. That part is great. Hope you are feeling better soon.

Lorraine

PERHAPS if only liquids feel good (water) a protein shake will help.
OR buy some sort of unflavored protein powder to mix in the water.
SO u get some in your day!
HANG in there it will get better.
I was on liquids for 4 weeks post op before i moved up to
pureed and soft. SO might be doing to much to soon....
also a protein pudding might help you....stallone protein pudding
is pretty good and goes down very nice early out.

GOOD LUCK!

LouAnn,
Go back to your doc.. If you still can't get anything down but water, you may need to be dialated/scoped(sp?) I had a friend who had this done three times (Her stoma was way too small!!!) till it was the right size and food could go down. Just a thought!

Best of luck, and trust me it is so worth all your troubles now!!!

Just going through some posts and saw yours. I am from Bethpage. Where are you from. I still haven't gotten the hand of this and I am not sure how to private message. My surgery date was 5/8 and I am down 30 pounds. I am still struggling with food, not able to tolerate solids, but I can see a little improvement. Regards, Lorraine
