Alt Weight Loss Surgery Insurance
Yes, you can often get insurance cover for your Weight Loss Surgery.
Our own Craig "Big-T" Thompson has been there and done that, and he's written an e-book about it.

The first and most important rule is, CONSULT YOUR SURGEON!!
In case of prescribed medication, consult BOTH the dr who prescribes them AND your surgeon.
Whatever medication you are to take post op, follow your surgeon's instructions.

That said, as a rule:
Any medication you are taking for weightloss, you should get off them.
Any medication you are taking for medical conditions (diabetes, hypertention, high cholesterol, high triglyceride etc), data related to them should be closely watched, and be taken off them by the prescribing dr or surgeon, do not decide on your own.
You will need certain suppliments for the rest of your life, since with bypass, the portion that absorbs some of the most important micronutrients are bypassed, and you may end up with deficiencies of those without the suppliments. Calcium and iron are the two most affected, so you will need calcium, iron, and VB12, and also muti-vitamins. You may also need laxatives, as many bypass patients get easliy constipated. Your surgeon should give you instructions on these, what to take and how much. If he doesn't say anything, ASK HIM!!
Added to that, if you are taking anything of your own accord, stop taking them, and consult your surgeon whether you should continue or not.

Keep in mind, your absorption is changed drastically, and this goes for medication as well as food. The doctors you are in personal touch with, are the ones who know best.

I really think this one is a question for your doctors to tell you.
I think together your regular doctor and primary doctor will
monitor and and all meds you need.

I will add that all gastric bypass patients are put on a multi vitamin
for life and calcium supplements.

GOOD LUCK

Yes Chuppy always consult the prescribing doctor before ever stopping or starting any medication. I believe that this is true even for over the counter medications. Some may intefere with regular medication you are taking. Better to always be safe then sorry with medications. Hope you are doing well.

So this is a little off topic but Doc i think it's great that you keep telling people to refer to their dr.s becauses they know you best. i can't explain how i feel about dr.s who 'know everything' and treat their patients as textbook cases. everybody is different and you obviously know that. Thanks for all the great advice and remembering that we are all different.

Hi there, the Doc's advice is right! After my surgery the Dr. took me off all my meds, and all i need to do is check my sugar levels several times a day. easy enough! And I was on 15 pills a day. I will take all the required vits and B's forever but that a small price to pay for getting rid of all thoes meds. My sugar level has been great
