Default How much sodium a day?

I've learned from folks on here to watch my carbs, fat intake, and sodium. But I do not know what watching sodium means. How much should I be taking in maximum? How is it calculated? Does it change as I lose weight?

no clue. i just dont add salt to anything i cook. i dont eat "diet" foods because they are notorious for excess sodium. i'd be curious what doc says about this...

I found lean ground turkey patties from Jennie-O. Hubby grilled one up for me with a slice of lf cheese. Was very flavorful, particularly since Ive been on a liquid bland diet. There is no fat and has 20 grams of protein just for thepatty. But I was concerned on the sodium - because it was prepared for me. Was wondering, if I just purchased ground turkey, and pressed it myself into a patty, if there would be less sodium.

Have you any experience?

Sodium is included in a lot of foods, and keep in mind that we do need sodium so, 0 intake is not good.
However, processed food often include a lot of sodium, so read the labels. It may say sodium, or NaCl.
The recommended total intake per day as NaCl is around 5-7g, the upper limit being 10g. Not that you can't take over that, and will make you sick, but this is recommended for long term health management.
To my patients with hypertention, I instruct them (or have the nutritionist instruct them) to limit the daily intake to below 7g.

weeeeellll......i just bought some today. it says on the back 100 mg/ 4 ozs of meat. i only eat 2 oz burgers so i am assuming 50mg is good considering. how many mg is in the patty you ate?

I got this info from the web - I threw the package mine came in away. I see though that it is not fat free like I thought. Hmm... So for future reference, Kenya - yours sounds more nutritious... right?

Reading labels and paying attention to this is all very new to me. It would be helpful to have a cheat sheet with exactly how much I should be intaking including the measurements like Doc provided.

Kenya - what brand is your turkey patty please?
