| Beans & mashed potaotes
I have read on this site that some of you are eating beans. Could you tell me the type of beans you are eating that agree with you. What type of beans are you using in chille. Does anyone have any good chille recipes? Or any other good recipes using beans.
My other question is that some of you are eating mashed potatoes. Is that ok to eat with gastric bypass, because of the carbs in the mashed potatoes. I have not eaten any mashed potatoes except for a few days that came with my hospitol puree trays. If you do eat mashed potatoes, how much do you eat at one sitting?
Thank you
PS: By the way these little anamations are so cute, I just had to add a few to my note.

ok well each dr is different. but i was told that when i got that feeling early out; that "longing" for something warm and comforting, to make instant potatos. i did not eat them every day, and at the most a spoonful or two, but i was advised not to worry about the carbs at that point.
as for the beans ive eaten them all; black eyes peas, butter beans, chick peas, kidney beans, black beans etc. early outi just boiled the hell (excuse me) out of them using chicken broth or beef broth and they cooked down to moosh. LOL. it was good. also very comforting. you could put them in the bender or in the food processor and puree them as well. they are high in protein and took the place of meat for me early out when i could not stomach it.
as for chilli i got the packet and just added the meat, beans, and tomatoes. good luck

Thanks Kenyar
I am sure going to try the beans. I like the taste of beans and they are warm and comforting. I am going to try the mashed potatoes when foods do not agree with me. I have days when nothing agrees with me and I will try the beans and mashed potatoes.
What kind of tomatoes do you use. Don't I have to be careful of the seeds in the tomatoes.
Thanks again

well this is where each of our dr's instructions might be different.
i was told early out i could use stewed tomatoes in the can. i was allowed to eat those way before fresh veggies. i assume it had something to do with the waxy coating on the skin of the fresh ones. im not 100% sure. you should always ask if its ok to try something new if you are not sure. we all started different foods/ stages at different times. check with your dr just to be sure. you are still very early out. be careful experimenting.

My pouch must be stretched out already... I can eat about 1/2 cup of mashed (instant) potatoes with my chicken puree... I hope I am not hurting myself.

I Use Bear Creek "darn Good Chili". Its A Big Packet And Has All The Spices, Beans Etc In It. This Stuff Is To Die For All You Have To Do Is Add Water And Tomatoe Paste. And If You Want Or Are Ready For You Can Add Meat Or Not. Dam Its Soooooooooo Good. I Found It In The Soup Area Of The Food Store.
You Can Also Have Refried Beans. Try The Fat Free In The Can. They Are Pretty Good.
I Also Only Eat A Spoon Or 2 Of Potatoes If I Do Decide To Have Them. I Think Since Surgery Almost 3 Months Ago I Probably Had Them 3 Times And Mashed Sweet Potatoes Which Is Very Very Healthy.

Yeah, I live off of the FF refried beans...I just add some Sour Cream and 2% cheese with them and they are so tasty!

I was OK'd for the mashed w/soft food but the beans were not OK'd for 3 mos.My doc never gave me a specific amt.I can tell you that 1/2 a cup would have "done it" back then.

I can sometimes eat beans -- garbonzo and kidney, and Mashed potatoes are fine, but I micorwave a small red or half a sweet potatoe instead. with some low fat cheese and ff sour creat -- it's dinner. I can usually not eat even a whole small potatoe. I still can't eat chicken, fish, turkey beef or eggs, so this is a staple for me. I am 5.5 months out. Good luck! Lorraine
