| I had Lap RNY last July 18th. I was 409 lbs 3 weeks before surgery and got down to 396 just before surgery. I'm 4 months post-op now and have lost 55 lbs. since surgery. This seems very slow to me. I just turned 60 years old last month and I need knee replacements in both knees so excersize is REALLY difficult. I know we shouldnt compare weight loss with others but it seems like most other people I know that have had the surgery have lost a lot more. I was only geeting about 60 grams of protein a day and have since increased that to about 80 grams a day and I'm getting plenty of fluids but am not seeing the scale move much. I've got a lot more weight to lose and I'm just afraid the "honeymoon" period of weight loss will end before I get most of my excess weight off. ![]()

Weight Loss Method Roux en Y Gastric Bypass | I don't know the answer. And I totally understand your frustration. Have you tried doing little exercises sitting? Or even laying in bed, you can try to do sit ups. Sure it's not the same effect, but it is movement that will get your heart pumping. I'm sorry I don't have any good answers, but I'm here to support you. I mean, 68 pounds in almost 4 months is pretty good though. |

Weight Loss Method Physician Prescribed Diet/Exercise | I know that some times it takes a while for the losing to "kick in". Also, according to your User Panel, you've lost 68 lbs in 4- 5 mos. Maybe some of that was before your surgery? You might want to tell your Doc how difficult exercise IS for you and see what is recommended for a sedentary person for protein intake. I honestly DON'T KNOW!!! [4 your situation] TOO MUCH protein can make it hard to lose weight. Then again, for those of us who lose a lot in the beginning--we seem to have a "stall-out" later. Those who lose slowly at first seem to pick up speed gradually and not have that "stall". Don't worry, if you're following your eating plan, you can't help but lose weight. DON'T GIVE UP!!! ![]() Wishin' Ya' the Best; Mya |

Weight Loss Method Roux en Y Gastric Bypass | Your surgery was a week after mine and you've lost more over all than me and I walk an hour a day - so maybe you're doing pretty good, just not exactly what you hoped for? Hang in there. Have you seen the bike pedal exercising thingy that you can use with your hands/arms rather than using your feet/knees/legs? That may be a good option for you, I think I saw one in the JC Penney catalog. |

| Super Moderator | Congratulations on joining the Loser's Bench. Sorry to hear you are frustrated. One of the things that seem to make things slow is probably your age. Your basal metabolism, the strength of your body activities, so to speak, is slower than the younger people on board here. But, close to 70 total in a5 months or so is not so shabby. This process actually takes a lot of patience. Also, for men, protein requirements are somewhat higher than women, so 80g is good. Another thing. For exercise, have you tried water exercise, aquabics? Do you have access to a pool? Exercising in water will take a lot of the impact from your knee, and help you strengthen your knee as well, so that's a good choice for excercise for you. An average loss of even 10lbs per month means total 120 in one year. Keep in mind, this tool works throughout your life, so stick to your surgeon's eating plans, and you should be able to lose the weight you need to. ((((((HUGS)))))) May your journey go well.
