Question What do I eat during the first 2 weeks after surgery

My name is Delma and I'm really having a hard time trying to figure out what to eat. I had my surgery on June 13, 2006. I'm home now and my husband is trying but I don't care for a lot of the protein drinks. Can you help me with some options, I'm still in stage 2.

Alt Weight Loss Surgery Insurance
Yes, you can often get insurance cover for your Weight Loss Surgery.
Our own Craig "Big-T" Thompson has been there and done that, and he's written an e-book about it.

Welcome to the board, Delma, thank you for joining us.
Please make yourself at home, and get to know everyone better.
Have you checked out other threads in this forum? I do remember seeing some posts answering your Q, but just now, I can't say which off the top of my head. Also, look into the "Stupid Questions" forum, there are some food threads up there, too.
I'll try to post something that might help you, later, if something comes to my mind.
In the meanwhile, ((((((HUGS))))))) and may your journey go well.

Well its hard many PROTEIN drinks taste yucky!
SHOULD try to get free samples at various sites
online before spending money on pricey stuff!
I know i became so picky post op.

I love drinking ...HOOD carbcountdown chocolate milk
that i get at the grocery store....i made powder protein
drinks with it and it helps. ALSO my surgeon recommends
for patients but for me it was far to sweet was sugar free
carnation instant breakfast....not as icky as the protein shakes
but for me too sweet. BUT as i recomment for many ....
is something i get in walmart EAS branks carb control lo carb
shakes in the ready made ...! I love them.
BUT maybe check out the estore here at the site im sure
they sell some good stuff!
ITS hard i know good luck!

Lisa, did you find that things tasted sweeter after surgery? At class yesterday they talked about how your taste changes post-op, and even from week to week. One week you may really hate the way something tastes, but the next week you love it.

Hi Delma,
Welcome to the boards. This is a great place for info. There is so much I find something new everyday.
Sounds like your about a week out. I saw on another site today as the 1st week being referred to as "hell week". It was for me. Hope your doing well.
I use unjury (site on line) and I love it. I mix baby food fruit with it, bananas, and crystal lite. Good luck and stay in touch!

wannabethin....
YES my tastes had a big change post op.
Especially early out. SWEET smells made me nasuas.
I hated anything remotely sweet......
That has eased up now big time.
I would also add flavors i disliked pre op...I tend to like
now. WHEN it comes to flavors of propel or crystal
lite i like things i wouldnt have pre op. IT amazes
me as if i had brain surgery.

SURE now a year out things are more normal...and these
sweet smells dont make me nasaus so now things are left
to my will power and strength! USE you honeymoon period
of a YEAR to its max it does require more work at the stage
I am at now!

I would consider it a major miracle to not crave sweets! The nurse at my nutrition class had surgery 4 years ago. She said something that I thought was interesting and made me understand a little better the changes in store. She said that if you've ever taken Phen-fen and remembered how food lost it's appeal and control over you, that is comparable to how you feel post-op, especially in the first 18 months.

WOW i took phen phen and the appeal to food didnt change sure i lost! BUT of course that got taken off the market and im actually settling on my class action suit for the damage that stuff gave me to the heart!
ANYWAY

yes its weird....its like they repaired my brain that the sweets arent appealing. I do sometimes crave at TOM time and i have fixed that with a healthy alternative that someone told me of...I order power crunch bars and slice them fill them with cool whip and freeze! THATS my TOM fix
and it has protein.

I am going to count on you guys SO MUCH after my surgery for all the tips you share. I took Phen-fen, but I don't think I had any damage from it. Probably should have had it checked out, but didn't. I think it's too late now to be part of the class action suit.

YEAH the class action suit is now settled.
IT is late.
BUT i did have my stuff reevaluated before the
surgery and i do have "MILD" damage from it!
SO its something you should have checked for your
own knowledge. THANKFULLY mild so i was still
able to have weight loss surgery!
THE settlement isnt much but i figure its more
then i had before. AND at least i have medical insurance
if my heart conditions worsen.
