The surgeon I am going to said that I need to be on a liquid diet for 2 weeks before surgery and after surgery only the 1st week and then incorporate soft protiens like sf yogurt, soft scrambled egg, ff refried beans, but ONLY eat 1 or 2 meals a day. No protien shakes after 1st week and never snack or eat more than twice a day? What were you told to eat after surgery?

I know every surgeon is different. I am just trying to find out what other dr's are recommending to their patients and did you really loose the desire to eat?

i thought you were asking what and how sorry. i was on full fluids when i came home. i was then told to add puddings and jello. i was to have something every hour. popsicle, carnation instant breakfast, crystal light, pudding once an hour. i did this for 2 weeks. NO DESIRE to eat whatsoever. commercials made me miss food but i wasnt "hungry" at all. right before the purees stage i was told i could have beans and mashed potatos. i could only eat a tblspn full at a sitting. then once i hit purees i REALLY had no desire. i was full all the time. between sipping and 'eating' i was kind of struggling with the routine. but in the end it worked out lol. you will definitely find your way. |

Weight Loss Method Roux en Y Gastric Bypass | Initially, clear liquids, then after 3-7 days regular liquids, no soft foods, for like 2-3 weeks. Then I moved on to soft foods for a 4-6 weeks. Didnt eat "normal" foods til about 90+ days out. I was told to eat 1-2 ozs with liquids, then it bumped up to 4-6 ozs for a while and now I can eat up to 8 ozs but it takes a while to get it in (like 30 mins to an hour) They instructed me to eat very low fat, very low carb, no sugar about 6 times a day which comes out to every 2-3 hrs while Im up. If you only get to eat 2 times a day and it isnt gonna be much coz you cant hold much, I'm wondering if that is a typo on your instruction sheet..... I think I'd check. If you are in a support group for that Dr, it would be a good question for them, How do they do it? |

I moved through liquides and soft foods quickly. I'm10months out and don;t tolerate meats unless they are soft, but do ok with veggies and fruits. But 2x a day, hmmm. My dr.recommends 5-6 times a day, small portions, low carbs, no sugar, protien first, then veggies/fruit, then if there is room, carbs. Doc recommended 64 oz liquid. I know Doc will comment soon, but 2x a week seems like a typo.

I was on clear liquids for about 2 days then on full liquids for 2 weeks, was supposed t be on pureed for 2 weeks, but moved on to soft after a few days. I just make sure everything is super soft and chew till nothing is left which is what I am still doing. I am able to drink protein shakes in order to get my protein up. Pretty much sticking with soft chicken, soft fish, and shaved sandwich meat for protein. I am supposed to eat 3 meals a day.

I am on liquids for 3 weeks (but my Dr. allows pudding, yogurt, malt o meal, grits, and creamed soups as the liquids stage.) Next is 3 weeks of purees Then you can start solid food. (so 6 weeks after surgery) I am supposed to "eat" 3 times a day and I can drink whatever I want between those 3 meals including protein shakes, popsicles, whatever. |

Weight Loss Method Roux en Y Gastric Bypass | My plan is similiar: 1st week post op was clear liquids; 2nd week is full liquids, which means drinks made with milk, blended soups, protein shakes, thin cream of wheat, thin pudding. Weeks 3 & 4 are pureed foods like mashed potatoes, yogurt, cottage cheese, still using protein shakes. Then weeks 5 and 6 are gradually moving into other soft foods. I can't imagine being able to get in all of your protein in the few 4 weeks without shakes, so I would agree with others to ask your doc about that. Best wishes to you!
