Weight Loss Method Roux en Y Gastric Bypass | I am over 3 weeks out, and I have to say I am having a hard time "relating" to many of the posts! I AM hungry (getting about 400-500cal a day, 50-60 protein, and all my water) I DON'T get nausea or vomiting, I DON'T feel abnormally full-and I do my dutiful 1/4c serving 3-5x daily. However, I could easily eat more, but I am dedicated to sticking to this and the rules. (none of us had surgery to fail!) I started new foods this week- chili, lunch meat, pancake, eggs, fish, spinach....to name a few. Nothing makes me feel sick, nothing feels "stuck" and nothing makes me abnormally full. Is this normal? Part of me wants to not feel hungry, to feel sick, and to really feel full- otherwise I am worried I could fail. Anyone done well with similar situation? I need to hear you still lost the weight even though you were hungry, could eat anything you wanted just fine, and didn't get that chest full feeling. AHHHH |

Weight Loss Method Roux en Y Gastric Bypass | I am 5 months out and I could eat just about everything, havent tried sweets and I know too much fat will make me dump, but I hardly EVER feel full like full felt before surgery, I just feel satisfied, it is a different feeling than the full I always knew, but then I always ate till I was STUFFED before surgery, so I wonder if I ever really knew what full was and maybe satisfied IS full???!!!??? I now know what "head hunger" is and that is mostly what my hunger is, I could eat all day long if I allowed myself to, but I did not go through the surgery to turn around and blow it all. I am a MAJOR boredom eater and that is a big problem still, my life is not very hectic and I dont work so I have a lot of time that I COULD eat our of boredom and I fight that every stinkin' day! But, this is still work, and I am determined to make life changes and use my tool!!

Weight Loss Method Roux en Y Gastric Bypass | Ya I hear what you are saying, I also do get a hunger feeling and sometimes I feel like I could eat on but I don't. I have gotten things stuck and be very glad that you have not experienced with that it is not fun. So you are doing things right just keep up what you are doing and it will work out. As far as the full feeling goes I feel more like a pressure feeling so I stop then but that doesn't happen to often. |

Weight Loss Method Roux en Y Gastric Bypass | The fullness issue is a different feeling for me now. More like I need to burp or something, hard to explain. I think the reason I dont have too many issues is because I try not to push it, dont want to stretch my pouch too much. Sugars def make me sick, although I can tolerate some - up to about 8g per serving. Are you drinking with your foods? If you do, it will wash out the food and that might start to explain some of it....just a thought. |

Weight Loss Method Roux en Y Gastric Bypass | how large is your pouch? I'm curious as to that. Over the years it seems like the ones who have the larger pouches 2-3 oz size seem to have more 'problem' with not feeling full early out, etc like what you are experiencing. I'll be honest though, I still rarely feel hunger so I'm not a real good support person in this area.

| Super Moderator | How are you doing with water/liquids? Sometimes, thirst and hunger can be confused. Try drinking some water --at a safe time, not with your meals, but in between-- and see what happens. At the stage you are, most people have a hard time getting a handle on their pouches, so just about any feeling is normal.

Weight Loss Method Roux en Y Gastric Bypass | Well At Your Stage I Was Never Hungry But Now That Im 6 Months Out From Time To Time I Get Hungry But It Sure Doesnt Take Much To Fill Me Up. One Thing To Stay Away From Is Carbs And Sugars, They Will Make You Hungry And Crave Things!!!!! Part Of This Surgery Is Learning How To Eat For The Rest Of Your Life So We Cant Eat What Ever We Want And Still Lose The Wt Hun. You Have To Make Healthy Choices Which It Sounds Like Your Doing So Your Off To A Good Start But I Wouldnt Do The Pancakes. Thats A Bad Carb Esp With Syrup, It Will Trigger Some Hunger. Drink Alot Of Water!!! Good Luck |

Weight Loss Method Roux en Y Gastric Bypass | I haven't had my sx yet, so I can't talk about the pouch. But I have been on a very low calorie diet with a full size stomache and this is what I've learned. 1. Most hunger is "head hunger". I can talk myself into "feeling" hungry. 2. When you think of food, you want food. 3. Carbs always make you want to eat more...they are a quick high and fast crash. 4. Drink first when you feel 'snacky', then wait a 1/2 hr and see if you really need that snack. 5. Don't skip meals, even if you think your not hungry. My surgeon has these rules: 1. no liquids with meals, it pushes the food out of the pouch too quickly and you WILL NOT feel full. 2. Eat your protein FIRST. It stays in the pouch much longer. If you eat pancakes with no protein, you are filling up on carbs that will exit your system quickly, then leaving an "empty" feeling in your pouch. Kind of like chinese food, you eat a plate full, feel just stuffed, then an hour later, decide you're hungry again. The glucose/insulin reaction is major in your body. 3. Add a protein powder to your water to sustain a fuller feeling between meals. I know you can work past this. When I honestly think about when I was truly "hungry", its not as often as I think. You're doing great! I also reread your post and at the end you said "eat anything you want"... you will never be able to eat anything you want again, because that's what got us all in this weight mess to begin with. You need to follow the high protein, low carb. low fat plan for life, the surgery is a tool, controling the food choices is the success.
