Default Tufts and Worries

My PC doctor has been advocating me to do fat surgery. Atleast that is what I call it. The gastric bypass. She has been advocating this for about over a year now.

I just read about Tufts strict guidelines. Has anyone ever dealt with Tufts insurance? I am in massachussetts.

My BMI is 53. I am 5'6.5 348 and have had huge weight gain in the last 5 years. Gained about 100 pounds.

I don't know if I should look to switch insurance before embarking on this road?

Am curious to other people's expereince with tufts?

Yours in deepest gratitude,

Angela

And what is a typical wait time through it?

Yes, you can often get insurance cover for your Weight Loss Surgery.
Our own Craig "Big-T" Thompson has been there and done that, and he's written an e-book about it.

I'd ask your doctor who advised surgery about how the process works with that insurance company. If he fails to know, contact the membership services department of the insurance company. They should be able to tell the the exact guidelines for RNY surgery, and if they have any exclusions. Make sure you have your membership card handy or a copy of your insurance plan number ready when you call, as that will determine your exact coverage. Some employers opt "out" of RNY surgery on their insurance plans to save a few bucks. DAVE
