Default The Insurance Waiting Game

So my consult went great! I just have my nutritional consult on the 24th. My surgeon stated it could take 1 month after the consult with the nutritionalist before we get an approval back. I have Empire Blue Cross Blue Shield PPO, does anyone have any experience with how long the approval process took? I'm just antsy and a little curious!

Yes, you can often get insurance cover for your Weight Loss Surgery.
Our own Craig "Big-T" Thompson has been there and done that, and he's written an e-book about it.

I have Healthy Blue BC/BS. My Dr's said it would only take about 2 weeks from when they submitted the papers. They submitted them Oct. 16 and if it weren't for some bloodwork the insurance company still needed it would have only taken that long. They day the bloodwork was submitted, they mailed out the approval, so I'd say 2-4 weeks with 4 being the longest. Barring any issues that may arise, like needing more info.

Good luck!!!

We have alot in common as I am in the same boat. I have Empire Blue Cross and the surgeons office submitted the information to the 11/21. If and when I hear anything, I will post. I am also in the central valley and will be having my surgery at ValleyCare in Pleasanton. I am HOPING I get approved, so I can have the surgery before the end of the year. I will keep my fingers crossed for you to get a quick response from Blue Cross. I have been told by my surgeon office they are really good about getting back to people quickly, but with the holidays who knows.

Well, I'm still waiting. I saw the nutritionalist on the 24th and she said everything looked great. I was so excited because she said " I will turn this into the surgeon and the girls will submit your packet to the insurance company!" I was so happy, and then she said" but your surgery won't be until the end of January or maybe even February because the surgeon is just fully booked!!!!" aggghhhhhhhhhh

I'm such a spoiled brat! I know good things will come and when the time comes, well the time comes! But gosh I can't help that we live in a society of needing instant gratification!

Then she dropped the big bomb shell on me..... the nutritionalist said to me..." You can't gain another ounce. You have to lose weight, start drinking the protein supplement in the mornings for breakfast, start working out now at the gym!" She tells me this 3 days before Thanksgiving and a month before Christmas! Of all times to have to watch my weight...why the eating holidays???!!???

Good luck with your process.
So, why do the holidays have to be *eating* holidays? Aren't Thanksgiving and Christmas about being grateful and giving and loving, of making sacrifices so we can share with those in need? Some food for thought

Oh! I hear you about "not gaining an ounce". I was so miserable during August and September when I had the same thing hanging over my head. Doc is right. We need to concentrate on what the holidays are really about, and they are not about food!
