| WLS Mentor | so i'm from Canada and I know that OHIP (OntarioHealthInsurancePolicy) pays for the actual surgery in the states and 90 days after care, but after that? i'm on disability so after the 90days coverage i don't know what to do. Also I've been informed that OHIP doesn't pay for any plastic surgery. It won't be too bad for me now because my guy brings in a second income and we think we can save enough. However if anybody has any knowledge about this i'd be really grateful if you'd share. I know that you get alot of people from the states here but i've been inviting canadians also so even a little bit of knowledge here would be good thanks freebird |

| Administrator | Bird.. I would LOVE to have a good bunch of Canadians on the board. Bring'em on. I wish I had more info to help you with, I am just about as far away from Canada as you can get.... If there is something I can do to help, please let me know. Blessings,

Height: | One of my good neighbors in Idaho were Canadian. They were awesome. I hope that more Canadians start to join and post. Remember it isn't too late to qualify for the 5plus drawing. Janae |

| WLS Mentor | again i think it's a matter of every dr. being different. if you have been cleared by OHIP for the actual surgery and not just the consults it will be faster than having to wait for clearance than the actual surgery. for me they only cleared me for the consuts, (and all of this time i thought i had been cleared for the surgery itself), and so after all of the consult appointments and paperwork is in my surgeon has to apply for me to have the surgery paid for. i've heard from others that this can take anywhere from 3 weeks to 4 months. AARRGGGHHHH i hate this waiting Ps glad you found your way here bayenbits (and friend) hope to see lots of you in posts and hope we can work out a good chat time. I think we will be doing a chat every wed. at 8pm which i believe is 4 or 5 pm your time. freebird

| Newbie | Cleared for consults? I'm not sure where you are going, but that's kind of silly. I had my surgery in the States (Michigan) on July 5th, 2006. I am currently down 133 lbs between preop and post op. I have gone from 288 to 154.5 lbs. If you want surgery in the States then the process is really quite easy. You first choose a surgery and your surgeon and then once you make that choice you fill out the OHIP paperwork and send in for an approval. Once you've sent in your paperwork, many surgeons will give you a consult for free although some still make you pay. I chose to get mine done at Barix Clinics in Ypsilanti. I had roux en y. I picked them because they do a mandatory leak test with every surgery and because of the skill of my surgeon, Dr. Poplawski. I like the fact that they also staple AND suture everything. When Barix charges OHIP they basically make a deal that they will include after care in terms of follow up appointments. I went back at 2 weeks, 6 weeks and 3 months, and now don't go back until my one year. Then after that, I go once a year. I do not pay for any of these follow ups. Please feel free to contact me on here. I can send you a link to my surgery page. Dawn |
