| For the second time I have been denied by my insurance company! The first time the Dr.'s office called the insurance co. they said, "No, not covered under her plan." But according to my paperwork I am, so I called Aetna and the voice on the phone agreed but said, "Give us 10 working days to update your file." So I did...then found out this morning... ![]() Aetna and Entergy (husband retired from Entergy, an electrical utility) have done it again! We had switched to a higher deductable insurance plan that according to the written info, covered weight loss surgery. Upper Entergy management issued a memo some time ago negating that part of the plan, but they neglected to update the written info given out to employees and retirees...so we picked the $500 deductable plan...a mistake based on missing information. The $1000 deductable plan (we think-I have no confidence now) does allow it, but you have to sign up during two weeks in October. Entergy human resources is going to call back and send some info, then we will write a STRONGLY worded protest saying...either allow this surgery or allow us to change to a plan that allows it or else. I would think we even have a law suit except they have a statement saying they can change anything at anytime and you can't do anything about it. Sooo...arrghhhh! Maybe I can do this under Medicare when I'm 65! I am depressed. SueZ

Weight Loss Method Roux en Y Gastric Bypass | Sometimes life just stinks! I feel your pain and the misinformation is unexcusable. Ins companies have disclaimers for their disclaimers, but the employer thing just stinks. Do you have a copy of your policy? If they sent you a copy of the policy and it lists the surgery that may be a good way to attack. Good luck! Remember, everything happens for a reason - just keep your chin up and keep going! |

| I haven't given up! We are going to pursue this...even if we have to get tough! We happen to know personally, the president of the company. May not do any good, but you just never know. Also, the lady from Entergy was very sympathetic. She agreed that they screwed up but had to go to higher management. Maybe they will surprise me (I doubt it, incompetenace seems to be rampant!). Thanks for the support.

Weight Loss Method Roux en Y Gastric Bypass | I'm sorry that you're having such a rough time of it. It's confusing when people tell you one thing and then it winds up something else. You're doing the right thing by fighting this and I know you will eventually win! Keep your head up!

Weight Loss Method Roux en Y Gastric Bypass | I think what annoys me about all this ins stuff is that they deny you and by doing that it makes me think that they are just going to let you sit around heavy till you die because it would be cheaper for them in the long run or so they think. I have done everything they have asked of me so far and will soon be adding my name to the applied to my ins list. I am hoping that with the other co-morbidities that I have and that I have done what they asked that they wont give me to hard a time.. Good luck to you...

Weight Loss Method - | I am so sorry to hear about your insurance issues. Believe me I know, I am having trouble getting insurance. I lost my health insurance which gave me no trouble at all approving me and getting a date because my husband left his job. Now I am battling with medicaid to even get an appointment to apply for insurance. I don't understand why ins. companies do that. It would be less expensive for them in the long run. You wouldn't have medical issues related to obesity that they would have to treat. Keep fighting!!!
