Default Slow Cooker Teriyaki Ribs

My son picked me up this wonderful cookbook called 15 minute Low - Carb Recipes thought I would share a few recipes...

Sweet, spicey and tangy fall off the bone tender.

6 pounds pork spare ribs, cut into 3 or 4 pieces so they fit in the pot
3/4 cup no sugar added ketchup
1 batch Teriyaki sauce (recipe at the end)
1/4 cup of splenda
1/4 tsp of blackstrap molasses
1 tsp minced garlic or 2 cloves garlic crushed

plop the ribs in the slow cooker. Mix the ketchup, teriyaki sauce, splenda, molasses and garlic together, pour it into the cooker, cover and set on low, forget it for 10 hours.

When the times up, use tongs to pull out the now unbelievably tender and flavorful ribs. Ladle out as much of the pot liquid as you think you'll use and thicken with a smidgen of corn starch. Serve the sauce over the ribs.

Yield: 6 servings, each with roughly 3 grams of carbs, a trace of fiber, depending on how much of the liquid you eat. and 48 grams of protein

Recipe for teriyaki sauce:

1/2 cup soy sauce
1/4 cup dry sherry (alcohol cooks out when used in cooking)
1 clove of garlic, crushed
2 tablespoons Splenda
1 tablespoon grated fresh ginger

Simple combine all of the ingredients and refridgerate until use
yield: makes over 3/4 cup or almost 12 1 tablespoon servings
each with over 3 grams of carbs.

I am making this tomorrow for dinner, sounds easy and really good!

Yes, you can often get insurance cover for your Weight Loss Surgery.
Our own Craig "Big-T" Thompson has been there and done that, and he's written an e-book about it.

Those sound so delicious. I will have to give them a try in a couple of months when my pouch is a little more healed.

I just got a new 7 qt slow cooker--Wolfgang Puck brand from HSN. My 20 year old one just went to "slow cooker heaven", as it failed to work anymore. I'd be interested in the name of the cook book. I'm looking for s good slow cooker recipe book--the one from HSN I returned as it failed to have recipes I liked. Or is it a "healthy" cookbook alone? Either way, I'd be interested in the name, author and where to find it. DAVE

I did make these I used pork coutry style ribs more meat on them, they were delicious and very very tender "fall of the bone" very flavorful too, every one here loved them!

This is the name of the book my son got for me:

15 minute Low Carb Recipes
Instant Recipes for dinners, Desserts, & More!
Author Dana Carpender
He got this for me a a bargain outlet called Ollies here in Syracuse, I am pretty sure could be found at Borders or other bookstores, she also has another cook book called 500 Low - Carb Recipes, I think I will go look for that one at Borders, this book is terriffic! The recipes are fast and easy, and low carb, most of them seem to have alot of flavor going on with the ingredients, thats up my alley!!

Ok, so I tried it but had to substitute a few ingredients ~ it was really yummy!!! I will be getting the correct ingredients though as I think it made a difference. I only had regular ketchup and it was a bit sweeter than I'd like, although I did ok with it. I also used low sodium soy sauce and it was still sorta salty ~ I'm glad I only cooked it in the sauce for about an hour. I did a pork roast and cooked it from 10 til about 2 and it was fork tender and moist.

I read this recipe at 11:00 last night, and went out in -7 degree F weather with a 30 mph wind (who wants to know wind chill in this weather! Not I!!!) to get the ingredients. Whipped up a batch today for dinner. Peanut wants me to do them again in a few months when she's back on solid food. They are soooo good!!! Her first comment was that the meat just fell off the bones. Hmmm ... that's the name of the recipe!!

I substituted commercial teriyaki sauce for the recipe, as we don't drink and I'm not going to buy a whole bottle of sherry to use a quarter cup. When buying teriyaki sauce, read the labels closely!! Some are really high in sugars, others aren't.

I used country-style pork ribs. Bought two packages totaling a bit over 7 pounds and put them in our 6 qt. crock pot. It was full, but not overflowing. I put in one layer, then poured on half of the sauce, and I added a sliced onion - half over the bottom layer, and half over the top layer, upon which I used the rest of the sauce. I made the sauce the night before and let it blend together in the fridge. It was plenty tasty!!

I had one rib and Peanut had two, but she still has a stomach and I don't. I put the left-overs in quart Ziploc bags - two ribs in each and some of the sauce and cooking juices. I think I'll have some next week when Peanut's on her liquid pre-op diet.

Good stuff!!!
