Default Old Fashioned Custard - full of protein

Today, it being Mother's Day, I felt like making some "comfort" food that would remind me of my sweet, departed Mom. She used to make us custard in little cups and it was a treat for us, but was made with real sugar and cream. This is my WLS version of it....
I don't own any cute little custard cups, so I just dump some things together in a ovenproof bowl and bake it in a water bath. (Put the bowl inside of my biggest round pott and filled the pot with water up to about 1/2 " from the top of the bowl)

I am not really sure you can call this a recipe, because I generally don't measure things, I just dump and hope it turns out....

Use ovenproof bowl...Mix ingredients in bowl. Place bowl in hot water bath and bake about an hour at 350 degrees - until toothpick inserted in center comes out clean. Remove bowl from water. Eat warm or cold

6 or 7 eggs
1 cup skim or 1% milk - maybe 1 1/2 cup....
a big glug of vanilla extract - a tablespoon or so
a bunch of Splenda - 1 1/2 C aprox
a bunch of powdered milk to boost up the protein level - 1 1/2 C aprox
Optional - cinnamon and or nutmeg

I eat mine sprinkled with cinnamon & even more Splenda..you can blend the cinnamon in with the mixture above, but it all floats to the top when it bakes.

We eat the custard either warm or cold. I know a lot of folks don't like custard, but we do, and it's a good bang for your buck with all the eggs, milk and powdered milk in it. One way to get some protein. It's about the only way I can eat eggs without salsa on them!

I have prepared it without using the hot water bath, but for some reason I don't like the texture or taste quite as well.

Alt Weight Loss Surgery Insurance
Yes, you can often get insurance cover for your Weight Loss Surgery.
Our own Craig "Big-T" Thompson has been there and done that, and he's written an e-book about it.

I make this alot. We grew up with our own Guernsy cow and had tons and tons of milk so this was made alot in our house. You can get those Pirex glass custard dishes pretty inexpensive they usually come wrapped in a set of 4. I like the larger size but the waterbath is very important as it helps the eggs cook throughly keeps the mixture protected so that you don't get over cooked eggs and rubbery. LOL we always liked the cinnamon 'crust' on the top when you add it before baking. individ dishes are nice of course you can grap and go! thanks for reminding me that I love baked custards!

Hi, I plan to make this - it sounds yummy. How many servings does this make? Do you know what the protein count would be in a serving? Thanks!
