Default Ok, I need to know about red meat..

because I am craving it! I want a hamburger and a hotdog! I mean, I can go hours without eating and days without thinking about any kind of food, but now, I am FIXATED on a hamburger and a hotdog. Now, I know I cannot eat them both at the same time, but I want to know from you experienced people, should I even attempt one? I feel like my body is screaming for red meat! The scene from MY BIG FAT GREEK WEDDING comes to mind, "You don't eat no meat? WHAT? You don't eat no meat? That's ok, I fix lamb." UGH! Someone please advise. I am 9 weeks out almost and I want a hamburger and you know every dag commercial is a hamburger.

Yes, you can often get insurance cover for your Weight Loss Surgery.
Our own Craig "Big-T" Thompson has been there and done that, and he's written an e-book about it.

hmmm. ground beef i had to wait MONTHS on and even then sometimes i get the dreaded lump. i just kept trying it until it worked. ground beef was the easiest beef for me eventhough it took so long for my stomach to "accept" the fact that I was going to eat it lol!

ive never had a hotdog post op. not sure why either, just havent lol. I'd love one grilled though now that i think about it...

I cant remember how long I had to wait for beef to be one ot the "ok" things that i can eat regularly, but in the beginning it had to be in something, like in spaghetti sauce or gravy (like meatloaf) something to keep it moist. darn it now i want a meat ball lol! hope that helps at least a little bit

It does. Early out, I had it in spaghetti sauce, pureed and that is it. I miss cooking. I mean, I cook for my family a little, but nothing like before. We always had cookouts at my house at least once a week. I feel like my entire family has had gastric or eats like me now. LOL!
I want a grilled hotdog as well, burnt. Put some cheese on it to add protein.
I guess I am just tired of chicken and turkey.

yes chicken and turkey, turkey and chicken LOL!!! Im sick of it too. i started eating fish which i never did before. i think the only thing they have against hotdogs is the fat. its not really "meat" so its like eating something worthless. LOL! get turkey franks. oscar meyer makes a good one...i think its oscar meyer. its been a while since i bought them. turkey franks should count!! and they dont taste like turkey

I can't say from experience; only from what I've heard talking to others who have been there -- but that someday we will be able to have beef again. But I believe it won't be until well after six months because beef is so hard to break down and you don't have any stomach acids to help you -- so it has to be pretty well mush.

You can have turkey hot dogs -- those have less fat. And then there are the kosher all beef hot dogs which are pretty lean. But check with your doc.

At my two week appointment my surgeon told me he wanted me to try to eat beef. He suggested finely scrambled hambuger meat or hamburger in a casserole. I ate about 3 bites of a meat loaf and handled it okay. But I put extra sauce on it. I tried fish last grilled fish (salmon) last night and it made me so sick. I think it was the spices on it though. Weird huh....lol

i think they key to meat is HOW you make it. LOL! of course some people handle it better than others, but for me, it has to be "saucey" or i cant eat it.
