Hey Bluejeans
It's good that you found us and good that your are learning how to post on this forum. You have no idea how much this website has played big role in my life for the past 7 months even before I did the surgery.
Great news that you have a date for the WLS congratulations! and I'm really sorry to know that in such an inflection point in your life your husband won't be able to be next to you but look at the half glass full. This surgery will turn your life compeletly that when he comes back and sees you, he'll be stunned with the new you and your wonderful results!!
OK regarding the surgery I can share with you my experience which was a bit tougher than the others basically because I have done 3 srgeries in one so it lasted like +4 hours in the operation theater I did my operation open because I removed my gallbladder, removed the old gastric banding, and did the bypass. My surgeon said that he had to make sure that the tissues in the stomach where it was banded is not wrinkled and ready to get it stapled and bypassed. So mine was a major surgery comparing to the others who did it laporoscopically and they all said that it sores for a week or 2 and then they can get back to their normal lifes!
OK few tips for you, you'd definately need someone with you in the hospital your mom or sister or maybe a friend coz you'll need some help maybe when you need to get up to get to the bathroom. the sooner you move and walk the better it accelerates the healing process trust me.
get some wipes or wet tissues with you coz you'd probably stay for a day or 2 withot a shower. it's a matter of few days then you'd be able to start drinking clear liquids like water, apple juice, maybe veg or chicken broth, decaf green or red or herbal tea you'll do that for hmm maybe 2 weeks then you can drink non-clear liquids for another 2 weeks then thicker liquids then mashed food and after all of these stages in 2 weeks for everyone of them you'd go for normal food.
You will lose a lot in this induction phase maybe 18-23kgs (39-48lbs) just in the 1st 1-2 months.
You have normal feelings about it, it'll be a bog event in your life if not your Birthday!
Good luck and keep us posted about your progress. Flush us with your questions everybody here are so helpful
Cheers,
Hanadi

My surgery is scheduled for this Monday October 23rd and I'm little nervous. My husband is deployed in Korea and I will have to have the operation without him by myside. I see him again in Feb 1st 2007. I really have never had any type surgery never even broken a bone in my body thankfully. Now I've decided to take this huge step to better my health. Well any advise you or anyone else you know would be greatly appreciated. I'm really scared and Nervous thanks |
