I think because I was much older than most having open RNY..I set my goals at health..I wanted to be healthy again, I knew having sleep apnea can take 4 years off your life, many end with with congested heart failure due to the fact their heart never gets a rest, this scared me I knew the facts (I worked as a cardiac sonographer for 25 years)...So I got scared.
I had the surgery for health reasons not weight loss only...So I worked hard the first year since it is so much easier to take off weight durning your anniversary year..By exercising, hiring a weight trainer,(talk about expensive...lol...)....changing bad eating habits...and hit near goal at 1 yr. post...another 30 pounds came off the 2nd year out...
I did all I could and did not worry about weight,(what I weigh).. I still don't, (I seldom get on a scale)..I figured what ever my body was to give up I would be satisfied with. I followed the pouch rule to the T the first year especailly.
My meals are always lean protein first a lot of tender steak and chicken)...then some vegs) and some raw fruit) I stay aways from soft foods, do eat salad some times with plenty of protein added)...I do not drink a hour before or after a meal) I stay busy and always have a active project going like putting in a brick patio, painting a room, etc...when I stay busy I feel less hunger, I work out or get some form of exercise each day even if I do that in short burst.)
If I do get hungry in between meals I alway eat some type of protein, (cheese, nuts, meat or heavy fruit like apples, pears, grapefruit, etc.
Also don't tell me why ???? but I found a snack that seems to get rid of in between hunger, I buy it at walmart, it is called Sams Nature Trail, which consists of roasted soy nuts, pepitas, cheeries, sunflower seeds, raisins and almonds, I add some mix nuts too to the mixture..after i eat some of this mixture my hunger dissapears....

hugs, (to be continued)
