Weight Loss Method Roux en Y Gastric Bypass   |  I copied this from the other forum about Keith He's in the hospital near his home. If you want to call him the number at Lourdes Hospital in Binghamton, NY is 607-798-5111 and he's in room 3401, please don't call after 8 pm Eastern time. Keith says please pray for him. Doctors don't know what's wrong with him is the short version. Friday he had stomach pain and felt feverish (no thermometer) so he went to the ER and was admitted. He had a temp of 101.something. He has had nothing but IV fluids for hydration, no intake of any kind in the week he's been there. Naturally this means he has no energy and feels very weak. He says it's not life threatening. They think it might be pancreatitis, but the truth is they can't find out what's wrong. They're going to start him on 24 hour tpn (IV protein feed?) soon. They have ruled out leaks with CAT scan and upper GI. His white blood cell count is going down as they have him on antibiotics (just in case?) I told him I'll call tomorrow to check on him and let him know the replies on this thread. He doesn't want to be mobbed so if you're going to call him, post here so others will know and he won't get too many calls all at once. He does have family and friends visiting and in the area. |

If he hadn't been able to get in enough fluids because of his reflux (this was what he was complaining about earlier) he would be badly dehydrated, and this can disguise a lot of stuff. TPN as the nurses on board would know, is total parenteral nutrition. Getting highly concentrated high calorie IV fluids to make up for the loss in oral intake, through a catheter inserted into one of the major veins, usually from above the collar bone or from the neck. I hope this will help him feel better.
