Alt Weight Loss Surgery Insurance
Yes, you can often get insurance cover for your Weight Loss Surgery.
Our own Craig "Big-T" Thompson has been there and done that, and he's written an e-book about it.

I'm just 5 pounds away from the century mark. I'm down 95 lbs! Very happy but had some problems along the way. Doing fine now after another plateau but still working my way down!

Happy New Year to all.

Heya!
I am in the heart of Illinois (East Peoria). My situation is rather odd... Heh! there are many surgeons here that perform RNY but they were relatively new to the procedure and this freaked me out, so I opted to have my surgery at The Barix Clinic in Northwest Community Hospital in Belevedere, IL (Just outside Rockford) It's 3 hours North of home!

My surgeon was Dr. Eric Vaughan. I chose him because of his "track" record of doing over 800 RNY surgeries. This was in 2005!! He used to be the Doctor who lead the seminars for other Doctor's to learn this procedure. He was VERY good and I had no surgery related complications at all.

The PROBLEM is... at The Barix Clinic... you're supposed to have evals, check ups, blood work and nutritionist and support available to you for life... post op. The Hospital closed down a couple years ago and all patients were told their records were going to be shipped to Ypsilanti, Michigan. That's 10+ hours away.

There is a strong support group here in Peoria via OSF Medical Center but you can only participate if you had your surgery there... so I'm pretty much out on a limb now... and have been on my own for several years.

I hit goal (150 lbs) a little over a year post-op and kept it off (following the plan to a "T") for several years and eventually got pregnant with my little miracle baby girl (which every Doctor in 16 years told me would never happen) and I gain serious pregnancy weight. I'm trying now to lose that pregnancy weight and get back down to goal!!

Hello everyone, just joined the forums here & this is my first hello. Am a 49 year old who's about to hit 5-0 the end of May; so how do I prepare for that? Well I do it by having my Gastric- bypass (RnY) on May 1st! Have fought the battle with weight my whole life & now am getting one more (really BIG...I hope) weapon in the arsenal. I currently live just outside of Chicago...though in an act of what might be insanity ; am due to move in with the ladyfriend hopefully just out west of Joliet, IL on or sometime not long after the 1st of June. Am having my surgery at a Northwest Indiana hospital, done by Dr. Gerald Cahill. He has an outstanding reputation & really seems to know his business. The nurses & dietician are all great and completely behind you. Right now I'm on medical leave from work...I drive a truck all over this fine country and parts of Canada. Was a little hesitant at first about the surgery because with the life of a trucker; following all the rules post-surgery will be a challenge. But am hoping the challenge will result in better health and a longer life and career. Look forward to the back and forth on this forum & wish all of you well in chasing your goals.

Welcome! And wow - you're right that as a trucker, post-op eating will be a challenge, especially at first. However, I'm assuming you have room in your cab for a cooler and you can keep that stocked with foods you CAN eat. And truck stops DO make good eggs just ask for them without any fat!

You'll do just fine - it's just a matter of getting used to a new lifestyle and working some exercise into your life. This is a WONDERFUL thing for you to give yourself for your 50th! (BTW - 50 is SO not the end of things! I'm about to turn 52 and so far, my 50's have been the best years yet! )
