I am 2 1/2 yrs out and have gained 16-20 lbs. Not a happy camper here. Three days ago I started the 5 day pouch test. I did great the first 2 days. This morning I made egg salad with 2 HB eggs. But for lunchI had tuna salad but used 2 cans of tuna and ate it all. Then I had a sugar free jello. I think I overate becaus emy tummy is oh so full but I had no way of knowing when I was eating it. I just knew that I had been on liquid proteins for 2 days and this was food, actual food. What am I doing wrong?

I so can relate to the head scratching...I get so nervous or stressed or something...not a pretty site. I am post WLS by 2 1/2 yrs...not doing so good, have gained 15 lbs. I feel awful about it. What am I doing that makes me soooooo hungry. I have unbelievable stresses but even after 2 days on the '5 day pouch test', i want to binge. BUT..I HAVEN'T.

how often are you eating? if you are trying to do the 3 meals a day only thing you ARE going to eat more at a time..the pouch does do some stretching after time of course.
Eating SMALL and more OFTEN is always a better choice. It's a kind of ..'back to the rules' thing.
Plus the amt you 'gained' back is really pretty standard for longer termers..you get down pretty low then gain back up some and that's where you stay. If you want to stay lower, it's gonna be a bit of work on your part to stay there.
The food choices you made sound fine to me..A lot of the people I've talked to who are beyond the 2 yr mark often slide back into the 'too busy to eat, don't eat all day' way they used to do, or they think that now they are 'thin' they do not have to eat the way they did to lose the weight.
Long term we HAVE to eat. It's how you stay healthy long term. Walking each day for 20-30 min is a good thing to keep up with to. It's easy to do, can involve the kids OR be your -me time-.

Thank you...I just am having trouble getting my head around the weight gain that everyone is saying is normal. I still want to lose but am wondering if that is still possible. Do I diet like 'normal' people diet and will I lose wight that way? I haven't been eating every couple of hours as that is not possible where I WORK. i KEEP WONDERING IF A MODIFIED aTKINS OR sOUTHBEACH WILL WORK. yOUR THOUGHTS? I do know that I have got to get out and walk...not sure what's holding me back there but I DO KNOW THAT MAY BE THE KEY TO MAINTAINING AT LEAST OR MAYBE LOSING JUST A FEW LBS.

Someone who had it done about 7 years ago told me that throughout our lives, we have programmed our brains to diet and our brain remembers when you were at a particular weight for any length of time. So you may stall for a while, when you reach levels that your brain remembers. She suggested to up protein and exercise. I don't know if anyone else has heard of this, but it makes some sense to me. Any one else with suggestions?

thank you...that sort of makes sense but I think the protein increase and definately the exercise is a must...this next week will tell as I am hitting the walking paths with the chihuahuas tonight and every night.

| I was told sometimes I may have to go back to the original liquid diet for one week and increase exercise and protein when I hit my plateaus. It was impressed onto me to never skip a meal - never. Your body goes into a combat mode remembering the no eating starvation spells of your past and will hang onto all that it can in preparation for that. But I continue to do everything I have been doing because I fully believe its just my body taking its break that it needs to take, to catch up on everything it has been through so far in my progress. PS) I look forward to when I can read 200 lbs on a scale!
