| War!
Why does it seem to be a 'war' on what WLS you get?
At my hospital support group..they would bring in post ops to tell their story. Most of them had lap band surgery done. They would tell us about the journey and give us advice. And I thought this was great...if you were having lapband. One woman actually said "no offense to those of you doing gastric". When she was clearly offending those whose were choosing to do gastric. It was as if she was looking down on ME. I thought we were all trying to acheive the same goal....who cares what tool we use to get there!
I had told the my PA that I thought maybe they needed to have 2 seperate support groups. I received no support for my surgery. Which led me to this website.
Sooo...thanks for all your support!

Unforunately, it happens! People are so passionate about what they choose they forget to take into account how others feel and what their choice is!
I am sorry you had this experience but, I am glad it brought you here. You know, the support group my docs office has is lacking and I too found this group out of pure despiration and necessity.
I personally beleive, God brought me here and this site fills so many of the need I have in going through this process. Sure I don't get the face to face, or the spontanious conversation, or get to show off my new smaller outfit but, I get knowledge, support, love, privacy to speak my heart, no judgemental responces, kicks in the butt when necessary, a Doctor that gently leads, and a group of people I truly care about and understand and love me just where I am at that day!
I am personally glad u r here! You must have great things to offer or you would not have found us!
WELCOME HOME!

Yeah it does seem that way anymore with all the Lapbanders. But in day to day life if they meet one that had the gastric bypass they are ..well not always really nice about it.
I did a clinical in the ER here in OK during my medic program and one of their RN's had had the lapband done. When my preceptor shared the info that I'd had the gastric bypass she got all ruuuuuuuude about it. She evidently had wanted the bypass done but her insurance would only pay for the band. Plus she'd not had the success she was expecting...(as she sat there eating Mc Donald's Chicken nuggets)...
I was blown away by the attitude, especially since I moved back to the States in 2003 but especially since I moved to Okla. by medical "professionals" here. The further post op I get I get slammed with a LOT of attitude that isn't positive.
The support here has become a life line of sorts although I do wish MORE long termers would come on here and share their life path stories and how they are dealing with the long term post op-hood.

| See I have the complete opposite reaction over here in our support groups. We have a good mixture of different surgery types and everybody is centered on the goal of getting healthier, I haven't witnessed a single conversation of anybody putting another down for their choice of tool. I am soooooooo glad this website has mature people willing to be civilized to one another. BIG YAY for all members here !!!

When you're above a certain weight, whatever road takes you back down successfully is a good one, op or non-op! Why can't these people leave high school in their past and grow up??

| Ali's ~ well said I think sometimes people come across strongly because maybe they don't feel secure or happy with their outcomes? I have a neighbor who I talked to about RNY and why I chose it, her's was one where she chose lapband due to cost issues and she's had some success but not like most RNY'ers I know ~ but here's the key ~ I think it's more to do with how ready you are to really do the work, mental, physical, spiritual~~~ The support here is the best anywhere ~ hands down
