Anyone out there using United Healthcare? any tips on getting approved for the surgery? I"ve done what they ask: medical records, physician weight loss plan, etc. How picky are they? my bmi is 40 with one co morbidity: hypertension.

Yes, you can often get insurance cover for your Weight Loss Surgery. Our own Craig "Big-T" Thompson has been there and done that, and he's written an e-book about it.
Hi im new and would like to know the same thing i have blue athem and they said they dont cover that type of surgery on my insurance right now very disappointed but just started out on my journey so will keep looking into it
I'm speaking as a person familiar with United from a case management perspective and not a member......they are about the most tight-fisted group out there. I've heard from several folks I know here in Colorado that they offer the benefit, but won't give auth for the surgery. I'd go above and beyond in terms of what they ask you for. Document those things that you feel instead of measure (like b/p), for instance if your joints hurt/head hurts/short of breath/snore and tired all the time have someone write that down in your information. If you can speak with someone directly there (case manager) or forge some sort of relationship with someone, that would help also. Good luck!!
