Default Lap Band?

Hey,
I had my consult last night, and Im still undecided between the bypass and the band! Does anyone here have the band? I know so many people that have the bypass but only a couple who have the band. Unfortunately, I dont know them well enough to pepper them with questions!! LOL So, if anyone on here has had it can you let me know how you like it....your pros and cons and such!

Thank you so much!!!

Alt Weight Loss Surgery Insurance
Yes, you can often get insurance cover for your Weight Loss Surgery.
Our own Craig "Big-T" Thompson has been there and done that, and he's written an e-book about it.

i do not have the band, but was actually leaning towards it in the beginning, but decided it was not the right decision for me, i did alot of research and disussed it with my surgeon and am so happy about my decision, i know there are a couple ppl on here that can give you more info, i think a couple of them had the band first and then went with the bypass, either way it is your decision and noone can make it for you, good luck in whatever it is you choose!!

I think most people start out thinking about the lap band. But as you start to do research and talk to Doctors you realize that surgery (bypass) would be the better answer for long term. My Doctor said most all of his lap band patients have a higher failure rate, by either not following up with band adjustments, or by sabatoging themselves by eating high calorie stuff that slides right through. It's a hard decision because bypass surgery is more invasive and long term life changing. Only you know what kind of willpower you have and wether it's a matter of curbing your hunger (lap band) or changing your eating habits entirely (bypass). Good luck to you!

I was considering the lap band ,but my insurance wouldn't cover it, it's newer. and having 100 pounds or more to loose, the bypass was the better choice. I am so happy I had the surgery it has changed my life. I have never felt so great.

opted away from the band...statistically, the weight loss is less...its only restriction, where bypass is restriction AND mal-absorption...more lethal combination for what I needed to lose! I didn't want a foreign object in my body either...and you are in for a lifetime of adjustments with the band. My step sister had it...she lost like 50 pounds and recently had it removed.

Yeah, I Looked Into It At First As Well.
I Was Turned Off Do To The Possiblity Of Slipping With Vomiting Or Coughing!!!!!!!!! No Thanks!
But Its An Indivisual Choice. I Need To Lose Well Over 100 Lbs So I've Opted For The Complete Bypass.
Best Of Luck In Your Decision.
Lol,

I too thought about the band, but after the seminar with my surgeon, decided gastric bypass was for me and the goals I had. My surgeon said he did not reccommend the band for those who had a lot of weight to lose, and you can cheat with the band, there is no dumping when you eat high fats or sugars, no restrictions, no mal-absorbtion. The weight loss is slower and less total. Also, you need to check with the insurance because some will cover the surgery to put the band in but wont cover the refills needed to keep it working.

I have the RNY and my husband got the lapband 2 weeks ago. You might try reading posts at Lap Band Talk Forum - The largest forum for Lap Band Surgery Discussion and Lap Band Surgery Support this is where he goes for info from other bandsters. It is too early to tell about his experience since he is still healing and doesn't have a fill yet, but I am sure we will have pros and cons later. We will be the poster children for each procedure!! LOL

In the beginning I was thinking about the lap band, but after doing my many hours of research, I have decided to go with the bypass. The long term effect seems to be better. With the lap band, you were able to cheat more, and I don't need to feel like I can cheat. Also, I have over 100 lbs to lose and my surgeon said I might not achieve my goal with the lap band. Just my opinion, please continue to do your research and ask your surgeon which he thinks might be best for you!! Good luck!!

Ok Last Nite On Big Medicine They Showed A Woman Who Had The Lap Band Years Ago And It Slipped Out Of Place And Got Lost In Her Body And She Gained All Her Wt Back. So She Wanted To Get Gastric Bypass Surgery But First They Had To Find Where The Band Went Thru Tests They Couldnt Find It. Well Once They Opened Her Up They Found It Embedded In The Stomach Lining And HAD To Leave It In Her. Pretty Scarey

I Also At First Looked Into Lapband But Heard Way To Many Failure Stories. Plus You Really Dont Lose Much With The Band At All. So I Went With Rny And Happy I Did.

Good Luck Hun
