Default Pills and lapband surgery

I attend 3 support meetings, primarily for RNY patients, each months. I had RNY surgery 29 months ago and am a advocate of liquid vitamins for convenience. My surgeon was asked a question from a pre op candidate last night about pill size to swallow. I learned something new. My surgeon stated that if you had to take large pills with the lapband, you should crush them, since the restriction of the band will prevent them from entering your digestive tract easily. I've tried some large pills with RNY in the past, and when splitting them, I find that they are difficult to swallow, due to the sharper edges from cutting. Any time I've gotten one of these jagged pills stuck, I'd take another sip of water, gargle for couple of seconds, and this successfully dislodged the pill for easy swallowing. Due to the unpleasant experience, I avoid any larger pills. DAVE

Alt Weight Loss Surgery Insurance
Yes, you can often get insurance cover for your Weight Loss Surgery.
Our own Craig "Big-T" Thompson has been there and done that, and he's written an e-book about it.

i think that was one of the things that detered me from getting the band. not ALL pills can be crushed. especially sme prescription medications. and i was on a few prior to surgery.
but ye, you learn something new everyday!

Hi, Shawnta. Welcome to the journey!

I take "horse pill" size pills. My surgeon said my anastamosis is about an inch long, so pretty much any pill will pass.

The only chewable I take is my iron, because it doesn't make me sick to my stomach...not because it is chewable.
