I have been on this journey now for over 2 years. This is what I learned
1. I did not have brain surgery.
2. I had Gastric By Pass. No where near the head.
3. My thoughts have not changed with the visual association of Food.
a. I still get a craving for a burger and fries when I see a Burger King
on the corner. The urge to do a drive thru is still there.
b. I still get a craving for Candy and sweets when I get upset.
c. I still want to eat the same things I did pre-surgery.
4. Learning to deal the # 3 has taken over my life. I look at the scale and if it is up a pound or two over my normal, I review my food intake.
5. Weighing myself is a daily activity, every morning. My weight has been stable for the past 18 months, I work hard to keep it from going back up.
6. My Gastric By pass was just adding a tool. I have spent the time learning how to use that tool.
If you do not learn how to use the tool, the weight will come back, every pound and it will bring friends. So realize the first 8 months you will lose weight because of the surgery, but after that it is all up to you. Every calorie counts. Junk food will kill all the efforts you have worked for. Liquid calories will also kill your efforts. Understand and use the tool you have been given.
