I did a 2-week pre-op liquid protein diet. Lost 15 pounds that way before surgery. My wife just had her RNY last month. She also did the 2-week diet (due to scheduling problems she ended up doing it for 4 weeks - they moved her operation back) and lost 20 pounds. Shrinking the liver was never mentioned as the reason, but I'm sure it didn't hurt. We both had easy operations from that standpoint.

Basically, your choice will be to do it the way your surgeon tells you, or not have surgery, so if you are prescribed a different technique, don't worry about it. Each surgeon has preferences based on their experiences.

    Good luck!

Hi softy, I did just fine, I was not allowed to use my cpap in recovery because I have a nasal one which blows air up your nostrils instead of the mask. I wished I had, had my mask so I could of used my cpap in recovery. The put some tube in your nose and they get you up and walking soon afterwards. The most pain I had was from my bad disk in my back because of the surgery table but after some pain medicine in the hopsital I was fine. After I came home all I needed was extra strengh tynol for my back.

I just figured out how to accept your invitation.
This site has been great for me as it is the place I can come to for support when my family cant give the type of support needed. Of course they are excited by the results but the journey is something people who havent experienced, cant really share with you.
