well looking at your stats i would say you have no problem with the weight/ bmi issue i am 5'9" and start weight was 250. plus i had 1 bad blood pressure taken and they did my co-morbitity as hypertension. i suggest going to your PCM and telling them you want a refeal to see a bariatric surgen. you said you were overseas.. where are you at?

Alt Weight Loss Surgery Insurance
Yes, you can often get insurance cover for your Weight Loss Surgery.
Our own Craig "Big-T" Thompson has been there and done that, and he's written an e-book about it.

I live in Misawa Japan currently, I think I've had a string of bad luck with doctors. I've tried talking to them about weight loss options and they keep wanting to send me to a dietitian, there's nothing wrong with my eating habits, if anything I'm extremely healthy in them. My workout routines could use some...well...work but considering I have two small children and a minor back injury aggravated by the extra weight, I'm doing fine there. By all counts, I -should- be losing the weight but I'm staying exactly the same. Literally not moving either way by even a pound. I've even asked about breast reduction at one point to ease the pressure on my back but my PCM told me that I wouldn't be allowed that unless I was within 30lbs of the weight considered "good" for my height. On a side note, I had a childhood thyroid condition that has not shown up on any blood tests since I was 18, my current doc tried to put me back on the pills for it as an explanation for my weight, I took them for a year with no change. I'm tired and frustrated with the doctors, not sure how to go about even asking them anything when the usual answers to questions are short and meant to hurry a person out of their office. I -should- be going home to Alaska in about 4 months if my husband gets deployed, otherwise I'll be here for another year.

I'm asking this, because if you want to have surgery in Japan, it will be very difficult to find a bariatric surgeon--in fact, there are only a few who've had more than 100 cases, and no one specializes exclusively in bariatric surgery.
If you've taken a good look at the average Japanese person, you'd know why bariatric surgeons are few and far between here.
There have been a couple of military spouses on here who had their surgery in Germany though, as Europe has a much much bigger patient base.

Tricare--US military insurance seems to be the easiest to get approval though, so, due to your present location, the best bet seems to research US surgeons in the are you have access to in the US. Alaska, or elsewhere, places where your husband possibly may be posted next.

Good luck in any case, if there's a will, there's a way, so I hope you'll find the answers you need soon.

That is BS about the weight being an denial for a breast reduction. i had that done in 2006. I was haveing back spasms and was going into a E! Im sorry to say but with my experiance with PCM's. Do your homework first and you might have to be a Bitch at the appt. go to tricare insurance and look up all the requirements to what you want. There job is to save $$$ not really fix you! good luck!

Gail, i hope all goes well with your surgery! i bet you can't wait to have it done and have your son see you and how you have changed when he gets home! What a great gift for him! How long is this deployment? I know it is scary, but write lots of letters, little care packages and emails!!! When my hubby went he got something EVERY WEEK! i even made cookies and put them in a vacum container so they would be whole and good when he go them. notheing better than treats from home!
