Alt Weight Loss Surgery Insurance
Yes, you can often get insurance cover for your Weight Loss Surgery.
Our own Craig "Big-T" Thompson has been there and done that, and he's written an e-book about it.

I'm a newer military spouse and I've struggled with weight loss since the birth of my daughter. I have two children and it's become really difficult to keep up with them. I've been tested for all kinds of things, diabetes, high blood pressure and thyroid, the only thing that's come up is a minor thyroid imbalance that shouldn't be causing me so much trouble. I know if I could just lose at least twenty pounds in some way, I could get some of my energy back. I've been considering the surgery option for a year now but I don't know how to broach the subject with the doctors, I currently live overseas and the docs all seem pretty cold here. Any advice?

Welcome! please post all your info...height weight. ect. I went to my PCM and told them that I was interested in Gastric Bypass, they gave me a referal and i went to a Bariatric Surgen from there he had to prove that i met all the requirements and sent a letter to tricare reqesting authorization. i went to alot of dr's and had a lot of tests done. it took me about 3-4 months to finally get a surgery date.

good luck!

So it's as simple as just telling them you're interested in the surgery? Also, what is the recovery like?

Pretty much yes. Tricare it self it easy to work with. They do have a certian critera they want met. Then you have the surgeon whom could want other things also. So yes telling them you are looking into havine WLS is the way to go. Its atleast noted in your chart and your off and running. You can go to the Tricare website and go under the what is paid for and not paid for and click on WLS and it will tell you what reqirements you have to meet or just give them a call. I did that so I knew what I was up agaisnt. I know once you have met what they want and its submitted they have like a 2 day turn around to tell you yes or no. That is a reqirment they have to meet.

it took my wife 4 months or so to get her in so long as she met the requirements that she had to do before the surgery. she finally got it done. but yeah, all you have to do is call tricare and inquire about weight loss surgery and they will direct from there.
