Default What nobody from NY?!!!!!

Hi
Well I'm from a small town east of Buffalo NY and I had my WLS on November 11, 2009 and I have no regrets whatsoever!

Dr O'Malley out of Highland Hospital in Rochester NY did my surgery and I have had no problems what so ever...well no problems that weren't of my own making like eating a cupcake and dumping and overeating sometimes and feeling horrible!

My recovery was easy and this was the quickest and easiest surgery I have ever had to recover from!

So far I have lost 99 pounds and have gone from 230 pounds down to 131 and from a size 22 tent down to a size 10 jeans and a small shirt/blouses and dresses!

I would do it all again if I had to go back into the past and make the decision again! I have no regrets whatsoever!

Sincerely
Helen

Alt Weight Loss Surgery Insurance
Yes, you can often get insurance cover for your Weight Loss Surgery.
Our own Craig "Big-T" Thompson has been there and done that, and he's written an e-book about it.

I believe there are many on board who are Dr. O'Malley's patients.

HI!
Isn't he a great doctor? Did he come in every morning and talk to you like he did me? And he never once acted like any of my questions were stupid or that he thought I should have asked them before the surgery!

I've had no problems whatsoever and was very relieved when he told me he did not put in drainage tubes or make you drink the blue dye to see if anything leaks cause (and I quote him) "I have confindence in my surgeries".
I'm not sure where Horseheads is...is it east of Rochester? I'm west of Rochester sort of in a triangle between Buffalo, Rochester and Niagara Falls!

Hi Nancy:
I know where Lockport is...I go shopping there all the time now! And my mom was in the Newark hospital for almost a year before they found a bed for her in a nursing home near where I live. She had Multiple Sclerosis and was paralyzed for a long time all but her left arm and hand and then even that went. I found out from her stay in a nursing home that I will NEVER go into one of those things UNLESS I have dementia or Alzheimer's Disease!!!! Not no way, not no how!!!!!!

I had 2 knee surgeries done in Rochester General and they fixed the botched appendectemy I had ...though I'm not complaining cause it burst and the doctor who first operated saved my life!!!!!

I turned 53 in January of this year and I wish I had had this surgery at least 8 years ago...then maybe the Right knee wouldn't have needed to be replaced and I wouldn't have had to go on insulin and diabetic pills and high blood pressure/Cholesterol pills and I could have done a whole lot of things that I am beginning to do now ...like go and visit Old Fort Niagara and actually walk around with everyone!

HI Missy (that is your name right?)
I know where Cheektowagga is! I've been there a few times.

Though the surgery may seem like a drastic measure...when you consider that you could die if you keep on being heavy...it isn't that drastic at all.

I had NO problems whatsoever! I recovered in double quick time (at least compared to any of my other operations!). I pretty much eat what I want ...though I cannot take a lot of grease and sugar is a big no no. The pouch does not like sugar and it rejects creamed spinach though I can eat creamed chip beef and eat regular spinach. I don't eat anywhere near what I used to eat.

And my legs (of all things) are like toothpicks. I had dispaired of ever losing weight in my legs but that seems to be the first thing people comment on...my chicken legs or toothpick legs!

I have lost a total of 99 pounds and still have one more pound to go...and it's a stubborn pound I can tell you that...before I hit the century mark! I went from a size 22 clothing down to a size 10 jeans and a small top and dress!

Now if I could only grow some hair!!!!! But I've been bald since I was 28 years old so I don't think that's going to happen any time soon!

Just remember that even if you have some problems (and you may not have any at all) that you are doing this to get healthy (and to look good!). Find something in your life to look forward to and keep that as a goal for when things get rough...if they do. For me it was two little grandsons. Maddox age 5 and Marjoe age 3...the lights of my lives. I want to be there to see them grow up...get married and put a great grandchild in my arms!

And now I believe I will be able to do that!

Hi Doc
That's cause (IMO) he's the BEST! I had to go to the hospital when I was down in NJ visiting my grandsons and daughter/son in law....nothing major it was someone else! And my daughter mentioned that I had had a gastric bypass to a nurse and she asked who did the surgery and I said "Dr. O'Malley in Rochester NY" and she said "Williamm O'Malley?" and when I said "yes" she said "Oh he's a great surgeon...probably one of the best you'll find on the east coast at doing weight loss surgery."

So even in NJ they have heard of him. I do know that people from Canada are coming down to have him do their gastric bypasses and I don't think it's just because of the insurance otherwise they could/would go to other surgeons...

I too, had my surgery at Highland hospital!! I am from a tiny village about one hour east of Rochester, called Wolcott....

My surgeon was Dr Johnson. I thought he was very nice, although I did have a drain and the nasty blue stuff!!! lol.

Not a single complication at all, and I am so glad I went to HH!! i have lost 108 pounds and hit my goal at 6 months post op. I eat whatever now, but greasy foods and high sugar make me dump (nausea and fatigue). I have never once .....thank goodness!
