Cool Hi guys

I am new here, and I was sent here lol. I was advised my some great people here that I should stared here.

Well lets see .

I am around 5'10 and jump from 245-250 on any giving day . Right now my BMI is around 30. I did one of those pinch test .

I know every journary start with one small step. So this is my first step.

My goal is to get to a normal BMI. I do not really care how many pounds I am at the end of the day. But my big issue is that some times I eat because when I am sad, and I am sad a lot. And I just like food, I love it .

After getting made fun of a lot in my last job,.. I just do not want to have to put up with that, and more .

Also I am VERY dyslexic so if anyone as a hard time reading something I typed, just say retype that lol .

Alt Weight Loss Surgery Insurance
Yes, you can often get insurance cover for your Weight Loss Surgery.
Our own Craig "Big-T" Thompson has been there and done that, and he's written an e-book about it.

The first step on this journey is to speak with your primary care physician about your weight.

Research WLS. Research sites such as Mayo Clinic, Cleveland Clinic, and other medical sites as well as RR where you'll find not only factual info (we've got our very own Doc on site) but also you'll be able to read and learn of other's WLS journeys. Don't forget to research the clinical trials regarding WLS.

You may also want to contact your insurance company to see if they cover WLS & if they do what the requirements are. For instance, you may be required to be on a physician supervised weight loss plan for a specific amount of time, have a BMI of 40 or over unless you have co-morbidities, etc.

Attend a WLS seminar to see if this is a journey you want to take to become healthier. WLS is NOT an easy way out or to lose weight. It is a life long commitment to changing your lifestyle. You have to learn how to behave in a healthier way including not eating when you're emotional or sad, eating in a certain way, exercising consistently, and you have to be emotionally stable and able to handle the good/bad/ugly that comes with WLS.

Good luck. Please visit often and ask away.

Welcome to the Non Ops section. Check out the threads and posts by Botzz and sue4491, they both are doing very well with a structured program for weight loss, Botzz basically on his own, but with a good knowledge of balanced nutrition and exercise program, and sue4491 on Weight Watchers. Check out their respective blogs.

About BMI. It sounds like you have the concept of BMI incorrectly, as you say you took the pinch test. What the pinch test does is to measure the amount of your subcutaneous (under your skin) fat thickness. BMI is not calculated from that, it is calculated by a set equation that involves your height and weight, so, if there are two people, of whom one is muscular and the other flabby, and at a glance don't look the same size, if they are the same height and weight, then their BMI will be the same. Your profile column shows that your BMI is 35.

Now, some pointers about food in relation to another post of yours.
You say that you love food. Why, or what about food is it that you love? The taste? The satisfaction from the fullness? The comfort you get from it? Does it shut out the world for you? Do you live to eat, or eat to live? Do you wake up in the morning, thinking what to eat for breakfast, what to eat today?
Do you plan your meals by considering what kind of nutrition and how much of it you need for today, or, because you want to eat something that tastes good and fills you up?

Alo, please don't dislike who you are. If you can't love yourself, how can you expect others to love you? Granted, there may be some things that could use a little working on, but please love yourself as a person, and learn to be secure about who you are. That will help you immensely while pursuing the healthy weight for you.

Hi there first im gonna appoligise for not posting sooner. Im glad it was bumped back up to the where I can see it section.

Things have been busy for everyone so im sure you well got lost in all the holidays with all of us and for that I do appoligise for that for myself. Its not like me not to welcome a new person to the forum.

So with that said hello. Im Vickie and welcome to the site. Yes you have made a wise choice in reaching out for help.

As Doc said you have to love your self. Yes somtimes that is very very hard to do. I know I went though that myself.

Honey I to used food to not make me sad or I thought It helped. Its like alcholic making things feel better or forgetting about it for a little bit. The next day things are still the same and you try to make yourself feel better again. Yes I to loved food or thought I did. Dont get me wrong I still like food but have found some of it dont taste as good as I thought it really did.

Things you have occured in life can do this to you. I think if you read here long enough you will find many of us have been on antidepressents or antianxiety meds even before we even thought about surgery. Yes it does go hand in hand. You eat for a reason....... most people do. Somthing somewhere started it. Its just not a healhty appetite.

I dont know if your wanting to have surgery or not . Even if your not this is a good support group to be with. What I want to say to you is this and yes it come down to it in the end. What ever it is that is making you so sad even if you have to really go back and find it..... you will have to learn to make peace with it and leave it there. You really cant just keep going on with what ever it is bothering you. Face it learn to make peace with it and go on with yourself. Its the only way to heal. It really is.

Myself when looking back I had alot I had to make peace with. I took it one thing at a time and learned how to do so. Meaning yes I had to really think about it and think it out. It will help so much if you will allow yourself to do it.

I dont like people being sad. I have been there. And you know there will be times again at some point you will be sad again. Then you will have to learn to make that peace but once you allow yourself to learn how to from other things it will help you when ever you have to face a new one.

You used the word sad when I used the word lonely. I do think they are the same thing to a certian level.

You can overcome this. And Botzz has offered his infinate wisdom and I would really take him up on it.

Take care and please come back and post and update and let us help you help yourself ok?

Hi MsVickie

I almost did not come back. I spent a few days in Miami, that did not make be feel good at all . My little cousin talking to all the babes, while I just said in the room . It sucked. I just hate myself.

Botzz

Wow you are the man.

DocSanae

Isn't the way that you explained BMI a less reliable form , I am not sure that is why I am asking. I do not have a Dr. before my name. So set me right if I am wrong.

For your questions.

I love EVERYTHING about good food. I mean when you are sad. Food is there when no one else is there. Plus it is just good. For example I can go to a Pizza buffet and eat 3 whole pies alone.

I see my friends getting married on face book , and it makes me sad. So I eat.

BMI stands for Body Mass Index, and it is a defined medical term, not a general concept for stating your obesity status. In other words, it is CALCULATED by a SET EQUATION that requires your height and weight.
The metric equation is BMI=your weight in kilograms divided by the square of your height in meters. To caluclate from inches and pounds, a constant has to be added for converstion to this equation, but I forget what the number was.
Here's the link to the BMI calculator on this site.
