Hi Folks!

I am/have been most definitely a non-op. My biggest concern/problem is that I have lost this same weight before "How many times?" You hear about yo-yo dieting, but I don't really think they're talking about 150lbs up and down!!! It CAN'T be good.

I don't ever talk about this stuff, but... ...I need to!

I was over-weight as a kid and at 17 lost 67lbs in 4 months. It seemed REALLY easy. I didn't gain most of that weight back until AFTER the birth of my third child. In fact she was probably 3, me 28, and I suddenly ballooned up to 225lbs. I was taking LOTS of antidepressants and it just seemed impossible to lose weight. I cycled between 170 and 225 until I was 36! Nothing really changed. I was still taking a medication. I just woke up one day and didn't want to be fat. I am only 5'2 and got down to a size 5 in less than a year. This seemed pretty quick and easy also. I SWORE I would NEVER go through that again, never lose track, never be fat, never have to lose weight... Got married to a chef. Wonderful guy but he literally SNEAKS fat into food. By last summer I weighed 278!!! This was crazy to me. I couldn't look at myself without clothes on. I couldn't stand myself to the point I couldn't have sex. End of August I had another one of those "moments of clarity" re "Are you crazy? Do something about yourself!"

I've now lost 60lbs but it seems really slow and difficult this time. Then again I'm 42. I have: degenerative spinal disease, stenosis, and facet joint arthritis EVERYWHERE in my back; Myofascial Pain Disorder; colitis and diverticulitis (dx by colonoscopy)... I think everything EXCEPT the spinal issues would go away if I could just keep the weight off. Also my spine would be much better. Due to these "ailments" I'm unable to WALK far, or even WORK anything approaching full time.

I REALLY need to get the weight off and keep it off. I am out of faith in myself though. Last time I was SO SURE I could DO IT. People who eat less and have lower body weight live longer--it's a medical fact! I'm TERRIFIED about the AFTER the weight loss, when the honeymoon wears off.

I want to be healthy and to just look NORMAL so bad...

Feedback?

XOXO
Mya

Alt Weight Loss Surgery Insurance
Yes, you can often get insurance cover for your Weight Loss Surgery.
Our own Craig "Big-T" Thompson has been there and done that, and he's written an e-book about it.

You are not alone. I am sure everyone in this forum has lost and regained huge amounts of weight; and with every regain you add more than the last time. I am 56 and I am in the process of getting approval for my insurance to cover the procedure, but I am convinced that the surgery is the "TOOL" that I need for success. Have you been to one of the free seminars for weight loss surgery? After I went, I knew that it was the right decision. The surgeon who gave my seminar is very sympathetic and realistic about obesity and he make me feel that he really understood the process we go through to become obese. He also explained why the surgery is such an awesome tool to aid in the weight loss.

Yes, you can gain the weight back, but from what I understand, the first year you will not want to over eat and if you do, you probably will be sick.

Do some reading of all the success stories on the site and go to a free seminar and then you will be informed enough to make the right choice for you. For me......I can't wait to start my life again.

Well alot of us have been there ....
and of course each time we put more weight on !!!

I know for me this had fixed my birth defect of over eating.......
and now i eat smaller portions but now at my stage i have to make
the right choices, not snack and not eat wrong foods being im
considered out of the honeymoon phase........

i would do it again but you do have to make permemenent changes to keep it off its not a magic procedure its only a tool. GOOD luck!
AND i hope this brings you the life long success you need, i find it helps me tons! BUT i do have to work at it daily now!
hugs

Mya,
I hear ya sister!
I have had that same terror most of my life. After WLS though and after the honeymoon period I kept waiting for the weight to return, like all the other diets I tried. Next month it will be five and a half years since I have the surgery that saved my life and only this past January did I really have to stary "watching it". I noticed that my jeans we tight, and my face a bit round. So I decided after the holidays, I was going back to the way I was taught right after surgery. The basics, hight protein, and no sugar, no fat. Yes, both of those two items had crept back into to my diet. TO may amazement it was very east to do, and the weight fell right off. In three weeks I lost 20 pounds. Brining me back to where my jeans needed the belt again and those cheek bone were back, and so were the complements from friends. I was very happy to know that the tool that I had been given works very well and is there when I need it.

Have faith girl...have faith!

Hey dm514,

That is really encouraging to know that you have kept your weight off for so long. Just can't wait to be in your shoes.

One of the reasons it gets harder and harder to lose weight after each weightloss and gain is this.
When you lose weight, unless you exercise diligently, you lose a lot of muscle as well as fat, sometimes muscle more than fat, then the next time you gain weight, you gain most of it in fat, and little in muscle unless you are excercising regularly. So, at the same weight the second time around, you have less muscle than before, and more fat. This is repeated with every loss and gain, so you accumilate your weight in fat, and muscle never coming back up to what it was.
Now, as you all know, it is mainly the muscle where you burn the calories. So, with less muscle, you have a less effective energy burning body. Plus with age, your body becomes less effective energy burning-wise, so you are getting a double sucker punch.
Not the kind of news you want to hear, I know, but, you know, keep working at this, never lose faith, and you will be able to get to where you need. The going will be slow and difficult, especially with your back problem and all your other medical issues, but you can do it with a good support and a good doctor to watch over you.

Hang in there, ((((((((HUGS)))))))))
