| Cub Reporter | Hi there everyone. I'm new to this but think this is a fantastic way for people embarking on the weight loss journey to discuss with others what is going on in their lives as they strive to improve their lives. Four years ago after my youngest child was born I decided I had had enough of being fat (I weighed over 150kg, which I think is about 300-320 pound) I changed my eating habits and started eating healthier food and excercising and over two years lost over half my body weight to now weigh 70kg (140pound?) which I have maintained for the last two years. I really dont think that there is one for all method for weight loss, but I also know that at such a heavy weight it's almost impossible to see a not fat life for yourself. WLS is one of the many amazing things the medical proffession is now capable of, however it is also major surgery with all the attatched risks and if anyone wants to talk about non-op options or anything else of course please feel free, I'd love to be able to share my own life-changing experience with you. |

| Administrator | Thanks for chiming in Heidi, The bottom line is that once the honeymoon period is over with WLS, most of us end of fighting the daily journey almost exactly the same. Your insight is going to be wonderful. Blessings,

Weight Loss Method Roux en Y Gastric Bypass | Yes congrats on your weight loss and being able to keep it off. I know already from experience that my honeymoon is almost over. I have learned though in the last couple of months how to be aware of what i put in my mouth, how i cook things and what is on labels. This is going to be so valuable to me later on when real life settles back in. Any advice you have to offer will be greatly appreciated as we post ops try to maintain our weight loss. Thank you. |

| WLS Mentor | when you decided to lose the weight did you even think about or look into wls or was that never an option in your mind? just asking cause every now and then i think i could do it without the surgery but then look at my track record and realize i probably wouldn't be able to do it without the surgery. the fact that you did it without the surgery is so awesome. i have seen others in my life that have been very big and have tried to lose it all themselves, one in particular comes to mind, and she has been at it for 4 years, up and down on the scale, always complaining that no matter what she does she gains weight, (this being said while she holds a chocolate bar or pop in her hand),

| Cub Reporter | Hi freebird, I never did really consider WLS, mostly because we have a free health system here in New Zealand and so I would have had to cover the cost of WLS myself and at that stage of my life with 3 children under 3 years old, a mortgage and just my husband working I could not have afforded it. I think if time had gone on and my health had started suffering more I would have started thinking more about it. I want to reassure you that it is indeed possible because not only did I manage it but my baby sister (youngest of 6) has also now lost over 50 kg! (110 pounds?). I like everyone else on this site had had numerous attempts at losing weight, every diet possible had been tried and failed. The difference this time was I woke up one morning with my brain completely and utterly in the right place for it, I said to myself - this is it, I'm doing it, I'm taking responsibility for it because it's my issue and noone elses, I'm going to stop putting the blame on everyone else and I'm going to stop pretending that the reason I'm fat is not because I eat everything and anything and sit my arse on the sofa all day long, but try and blame some genetic disposition! I'm miserable and I don't want to be, I want to be happy and confident. I lost the weight through really old fashioned but sensible eating and exercising, although the exercise part didnt come until I'd lost a fair amount of weight - and was done in the dark for a long time. I started ating lots of salads and vegetables and lean meats and the weight started coming off, and as the weight came off the way I felt was reward initself to continue. I'm struggling to explain how it was different this time, but there was no doubt in my mind I was doing it this time, I didn't say - I'll try this and see how I go, I said - right this is it I'm doing this. I am loathe to suggest that any one way is better than the other, it's the end result that is what is important. And Freebird believe me the end result is better than you can imagine, I descibed it in another post as if a huge damp dark grey cloud has been lifted out of my body and soul and so now not only does my physical body feel lighter but my soul is filled with bright warm sunshine. I hope that you come to the decision that is best for you too Freebird so you can discover the joy it is to feel so well and good about yourself. Heidi |

Weight Loss Method Roux en Y Gastric Bypass | THanks for the info Heidi I too am pre-op and have "woken" up to the I am not doing this anymore and have been doing great. Still not totally confident and very impatient in wanting the rapid weight loss also. But steadfast into changing my way of eating and taking the responsibility rather than blaming someone or something else too! Hoping to have the ephfihny (not sure how to spell it) of whether or not to have the surgery. Glad to see it can be done!
