Default RNY and normal antibiotics

Please let any doctor you visit know that you have had weight loss surgery. It does make a difference. I cut my finger on my table saw in the summer of 2006, a few months post op. I went to the ER to get it stitched up, and received antiobiotics. I maintained the same diet, took the prescribed antibiotic (CIPRO), and had continued diarrhea for the next ten days. I had a consult with my gp about my dizzy spells, and asked about the diarrhea. He reviewed my computerized medical chart, and noted my ER visit. He then said he saw the problem. CIPRO is a good antibioitic, but it kills off all good and bad bacteria, and this can cause severe diarrhea, as the natural flora of the colon is no longer balanced. A few months later, I had to go to the ER for a different situation. I mentioned I was a bariatric patient, and he said he would give me an antibiotic that wouldn't cause problems. Bactrum was prescribed, and had no problems with that antibioitic. So make sure to tell any new doctor you visit that you are a bariatric patient--it may save you hours from sitting on the porcelain throne. DAVE

Alt Weight Loss Surgery Insurance
Yes, you can often get insurance cover for your Weight Loss Surgery.
Our own Craig "Big-T" Thompson has been there and done that, and he's written an e-book about it.

Only problem with Bactrim is that it's a sulpha drug and not very strong....it will usually keep a situation from getting worse, but may not kill off an infection.

ALL antibiotics do a number on the flora in your intestines...this is how they work....unfortunately, most of them will create side effects, even for NON bariatric patients!

Since surgery, I've taken Amoxicillin and Z-Pack...with little to no problems! (Augmentin will cause you to pay homage to the porcelain God FREQUENTLY!)
