Default Feelings about seeing lots of people after WLS

Here's the scoop! My family has a barn dance every year with lots of good food, entertainment, dancing, etc! Basically, just a good, old fashioned good time. Of course, last year I was a sz 24-26, sweat buckets even though it was cool and refused to dance at all. This year, I was wearing a sz 14 and danced some slow dances - still not a big dancer although I should learn coz it looked like so much fun!!!

What was a challenge to handle was the reaction of people I havent seen in 6-8 months. I guess it would have been easier if I hadn't had to face, like, 200 people at one time!!!!!

"Look at you!!" "I can't believe it!" "I didn't recognize you" and plenty of compliments. It was nice, and I'm really happy to have seen everyone, but it was pretty overwhelming. At one point I realized my body language was like I had my arms wrapped around myself like I was trying to hide

My BF Teresa came up to me and said You look pretty uncomfortable ~ she knows me too well! It was a great weekend, though. We had a 50's theme this year, and danced to the same song as my DH and I had danced to 22 years and 1 day ago for our first dance as a married couple, Can't help falling in love with you by Elvis (you might be a redneck.......) I dont care though, I love that song!!! It was a great night once I had run into everyone and then just got to enjoy talking to people. Ok, here's a cool thing, I also met a lady who had WLS about 5 years ago, lost 156 pounds and has kept it off successfully. She had had a rough time and lost a large part of her weight in 9 mos which was way to fast, had lost up to 176 pounds but that was too small. Once she got her problems taken care of she gained some and has done well ever since. It was great to meet and talk to her.

So this is my story of my weekend. Hope everyone has a good week!

Alt Weight Loss Surgery Insurance
Yes, you can often get insurance cover for your Weight Loss Surgery.
Our own Craig "Big-T" Thompson has been there and done that, and he's written an e-book about it.

Wow! Sounds like a crazy weekend!
I am very fresh post-op, but I dread going to work everyday. Everyone knows I had the surgery and I can't go more than 2 minutes without someone saying I look great, how are you feeling, how are you doing, etc...
Don't get me wrong, the compliments and concern is very much appreciated, but I've been back to work for almost 2 weeks now and I wish it would just let up a bit.

It must have been a little unnerving to have so many people have their eyes on you...but you've done fabulous, you feel better, and you were in your husbands arms. Priceless.

Default Hey I hear ya!

All that unwanted attention is hard to swallow!! I get it at work all the time!! When you are heavy people cant even look you in the eye. We are used to being invisible!! And we liked it!!

I guess you will have to get used to being a hot skinny chick!! lol Glad you had so much fun!! Dont worry it takes a while for the brain to catch up with the body. I am curious ... when they all asked you about it did you tell them all you had a gastric bypass?? or what? I am getting tons of questions and it get harder and harder to lie to them about how I truely lost it!!

I can relate to what you are feeling. It is almost daily for me as well. They like to call me the "incredible shrinking woman" at work. In many ways I hate going to church anymore. I go of course because it is a part of me, but the amount of attention I get is a bit overwhelming. I just want to be invisible again sometimes. I did not do this for the attention. If I am recognized, I want it to be for some great contribution that I have made. Honestly, I do not thrive on recognition so where is the middle ground?

It must be hard while you are changing form, but once you've leveled out, and people are used to the new you, I think the initial attention will recede, and you'll get attention of the person you are, not the changes on the outside. Just be patient and let things run their course, and you'll be on comfortable ground again.

Clancy, the barn dance sounds awsome, any pics??????
And I sooooo relate to the music, too, mmmmm, Elvis, swoon

((((((HUGS))))))
