Default O/T - vent about family

Ok, so this is just me venting, and it's not so much related to WLS, except in how I am gonna cope with it!

We are at the "launch a kid" stage and things have been really super busy. There is so much to do with college selection, app, acceptance vs denial, decisions, financial aid, etc...... Plus all the busy things high school kids are busy with anyway..... plus practicing driving, numerous activities and performances and parades, and of course the normal kid healthcare stuff.

What I am trying to deal with is the two roosters in my house!!!!! I know this is supposed to be normal, but I wish they'd figure this stuff out. Right now, I'd like to leave for college!!!! Why can't they just get along? Why is everything a test? And, why can't the older one realize what is happening and why it is happening? I don't get the reason why DH can't deal with the emotional aspects of this. Why can't we use these precious few months left wisely teaching the last minute lessons we thought we'd have so much time to fit in just 17 short years ago!!! I feel so frustrated having to "go between" these two daily. and of course they both vent to me! - I'm guessing thats a mom priviledge? Then I have to carefully insist on respect, in spite of the situation, which I may or may not agree with. Sometimes I'd like to bonk both their heads together and walk away!!!!

Needless to say, there are no Chips ahoy cookies in my coping plan this time ~ although just spilling it out here feels pretty good. Thanks for listening ~ if you've been thru this, I'd love any words of wisdom you have for me

Alt Weight Loss Surgery Insurance
Yes, you can often get insurance cover for your Weight Loss Surgery.
Our own Craig "Big-T" Thompson has been there and done that, and he's written an e-book about it.

Bwahahahaha.....I never found my DH helpful in this area, but ours were two chicks-gonna-be-hens, so I guess he just wanted to escape three hens picking on him
I just let him get away with it, as things tended to get complicated when he stuck his head into the hen pen, and that was just more stuff on my plate.
Anywho, the best I can say is, take a deep breath, and set up a hour a day just for yourself, declare that no one is to intrude, and lock yourself in, go to the gym, round up some gals for gals time, whatever, so you can stay sane.
Hang in there, you know, once the rooster is off and away, you are going to worry about other stuff, so when it comes to kids, it's lose-lose situation (or a win-win situation, depending on how you see it) all you can do is love 'em then shrug off the rest...of course, after giving them plenty of earfuls

Deep breaths definately help. Like I always say "life steps in and then you gotta cope with it without the helper called FOOD!"

The biggest thing is to find a new coping tool. exercise, walk around the block, learning to put your needs first is a huge one! If momma ain't happy then life isn't gonna be good for anyone!

I think a deep issue for all of us moms or not, is that we put everyone else first and not ME. We think or are told it's selfish to think of ourselves first. But you know what...everyone ELSE does. It isn't selfish to put your needs first and to take care of you ENABLES you to deal more effectively with all of life's problems.

Preparing for college time, I so hear you!! My daughter is 18 and is a senior so we are dealing with this issue right now too. She's actually already as a senior in college at the same time. So she's got a better take on the reality of college. Plus she's very aware of financial issues so we may do the stay at home the first year and then go from there...I'm in no hurry to push her out the door. She's so funny and smart and can quote you all the statistics of freshmen who commit suicide their college freshman year and depression issues, grade failures, etc.

It's all good...learning to cope without the helper of food is a BIGGIE but you can do it!!!

(note: this is where a lot of people fall into the 'replacing' issue..instead of food..spend money, gamble, drink, sex, etc)

i wish i knew the answer. of course mine is little. i WISH she were college bound...
writing is a big thing for me now. i get to see all my thoughts and the situation from beginning to end on paper. somehow it helps me sort out what steps i need to take etc. i dunno if thats coping or distracting myself long enough to NOT turn to food LOL. but hey, it works!

hang in there. i think you're doing great by venting. i know before this i didnt vent at all. i just ran for the nearest 24 hour fast food joint and went to town...

Thanks guys~Bree, I do have my private concerns about freshman year and the emotional aspects of it for him. I do my best to be a good support and to listen, unfortunately his major is not available locally and he has been taking AP courses for 3 years so he really is academically ready for his program. He has several friends that are going to his college of choice, we are hoping he'll get to room with. I'm sure it'll be an interesting ride!

I've got a 14 year old and a 19 year old...the 14 year old can't WAIT to leave, the 19 year old MAY NEVER leave....they are both my biological children, but DDH's setpkids....so he doesn't have the built in trauma I experience with either one of them!!

I feel your pain....and while it will pass, it sucks going through it all....good for you on avoiding the Chips Ahoy!!! I personally would be locking up the liquor cabinet....though DDH says I'm a cheap date anymore LOL
