I totally get what you're saying. 1- I am losing but my body is still the same basic shape, so while I'm shrinking, I have the same figure issues - thunder thighs for example, yes, they're down 13" but proportionally, they're still thunder thighs. I think this is one reason why it takes awhile to adjust psychologically. Also, I wish people would just let it go ~ my size really doesnt need to be discussed everytime I see someone. I know they are just trying to compliment and encourage me, but I'm not too comfortable with the attention. As large women, we didnt get that kind of attention so it's foreign to us. Lastly, I don't know what my ending weight will be so this is a hard question for me. Mostly I tell people it's normal to bounce back about 10% of your total loss, so I'm hoping to go down further than I'll probably level off at. I'm with Kenya, if you feel you need to talk to someone professionally, go for it. If you are just thinking out loud and want to bounce off others, we're here! You've made great progress - hang in there!

Alt Weight Loss Surgery Insurance
Yes, you can often get insurance cover for your Weight Loss Surgery.
Our own Craig "Big-T" Thompson has been there and done that, and he's written an e-book about it.

I agree Sarah,
I don't think you need to go see anyone, especially since you are not depressed. I think it just takes time for what you believe your self image to be to catch up to your weight loss. I also agree with what Kenya said - take pictures, so your minds eye can really see it.

The brain does need time to catch up yes. However your friend knows you alot better than we do on a daily basis and mabye she senses somthing we dont.

It does take a few months to start to acutally see a change in our bodys. I know the first time I really did I just got out of the shower and was looking in the mirror and I was amazed actually. Maybe you do need just some more time. However if it continues a visit wont hurt.

I know exactly what you mean becasue earlier and sometimes now I still do not see what other people see. I think it is becasue I am so fixed on my big stomach. I know I am quite a bit smalller than before becasue of the cloths that I have gone threw. My husband tells me all the time that I am bony and getting so tiny and that I am skinny. I told him that he thinks so becasue he was so use to me being so heavy and I am smaller now and that I have a long ways to go yet. He says, no I really mean you are much smaller now. He said he could not get his arms around me and now he says he can hug me with extra room, arms folded over.He is amazed by my weight loss and he is sooo happy that I had it done now. I am starting to see it more right along. But every once in a while I do have trouble seeing it yet, like others do. I send before and after pictures to my niece and she says that I do not even look like myself and that I look so diffferent now. Her husband could hardly believe what he was seeing on the computor and how I have changed so much. I asked my sister this morning if I really changed that much and she told me that I do not even look like myself anymore. So I know what you are going threw and yes it does get better and you will start to see it soon, it took me a while but I am seeing it more often now.

The image discrepancy is quite normal.
You'll see the *old* you for a very long time, even after you've reached goal, and even if you get to be able to see the *new* you, you will still occasionally say "that isn't me" to the mirror.
Here's a thread that I posted a couple of years ago of the conversation I had with CraigT on this subject. I hope it will help you fee at ease.
How long before I.....

I hope these posts will help you.

One way to help you see where you really are at now, is to ask a person you can trust to point out other people who are the size you are now. You will be very surprised to where you relate.

Anyway. Conclusion. If you aren't depressed, don't worry.

Personally I think therapy should be required the 1st 2 yrs post op. It's really amazing all the issues and things that come up along the way. Even at getting close to 6 yrs post op now..do I think of myself as 'thin'? Do I see myself as others do?

Body dysmorphia. (sp?) Huge issue for us!

I saw a thing the other day and i remember doing this in a group setting. Huge piece of paper you draw the outline of how you believe you look, then someone actually outlines you and you compare the 2..so many of us posties still draw ourselves HUGE compared to the reality.

It's very eyeopening!

It's a long process and it takes -work-, really it does. I have glimmer moments where I do 'see' myself and 'get it' about what people see when they look at me. It's all good you know?

People are certainly a ton nicer to me because I'm normal sized now. Used me to piss me off though ! LOL
