Default My 5th Surgiversary!

Just after Christmas last year, I went under the knife and lost several things. One was my dignity for awhile as the nurses poked and prodded and did unspeakable things to me! But I got over that and went home to die for a week or so. Seriously, I remember the night after surgery a whole lot better than I remember the hour and a half ride home or the week or so that followed.

But I eventually rejoined the land of the living, a wiser and lesser man. I didn't lose my sense of humor (When I lose that, close the lid, the party's over!!) but I have lost over a third of myself. The adipose me has gone away, and I don't miss him!!

It's been a time of learning of restrictions, of following orders, of developing habits of self-discipline where once I observed few limitations. Of figuring out that a healthy portion doesn't necessarily have to be visible to fill you up (or so it seems at times!) Of trying to predict what size I would be on a certain date when I had a commitment and wanted to look good, and failing, and looking like a shrunken old man lost in someone's hand-me-downs.

But mainly it's been an exciting ride, a celebration of success as people finally started to figure (at -50 pounds) that I was actually losing weight, and then watching them trying to decide if they could comment on it! Now they ask me how much more I plan to lose, because they don't see how I could lose any more!

It's been a time of testing myself and my resolve. My wife was initially opposed to this because she didn't think I could adapt to the rigor needed to do this right. She finally came around, and now she feels terrible because her approach to weight loss is not giving her the results she wants. (Poor kid!)

This isn't for everyone. It was really an act of desperation, a last resort after which the reality of being a fat man with a short life expectancy would have claimed me. Fortunately, that "reality" was an illusion, and there is a new me!

To those thinking about WLS, or waiting for a tee time, be sure you have what it takes to follow through. But when you make it work for you, it's a beautiful thing, and not just in the mirror!!

Wishing you all success and good health,

CT

Alt Weight Loss Surgery Insurance
Yes, you can often get insurance cover for your Weight Loss Surgery.
Our own Craig "Big-T" Thompson has been there and done that, and he's written an e-book about it.

Happy surgiversary! It's so encouraging to see people this far out and still being successful, as all of us have a great fear of regaining.

Congratulations to you! You've done a great job, and what a great post! There is MUCH more to this journey than meets the eye, that's for sure. But I sure wouldn't turn back the hands of time for nothing, well...except to have it done sooner!

Actually, Kelly, I was talking about my 5th MONTH surgiversary! You're a month behind me and have lost 92 pounds. I've lost 98. I'd say you're not doing too bad at all, sister!

Ain't it great when you realize you can finally reach behind you to give yourself a pat on the back?

Happy 4 month surgiversary to you!!
