A lot of you chiming in this particular thread have now been post op for a while, and so, will have felt at one point or another what Kenyar has been feeling, even if the degree is different. So, I am going to say something that for those who are still very early on this journey, may find upsetting. From having known CraigT for several years, and from being on this board, I've seen that one of the traits common to most of you, heck, it's close enough to say all of you, is that you tend to want this fixed NOW, whatever it is. Being upset over not being fixed NOW leads you to alternative methods that isn't too complimentary to your health. Learning how to deal with this will help you a lot as you get along with your life, and so I hope you'll all give it some thought, and find a way to work this out, whether it's by yourself, or by talking it through with someone, family, friends, or professionals. As for lack of sleep, it's okay to use a sleep inducing medication, as a matter of fact, most of the psych friends that I have usually recommend use of both antidepressants and sleep pills when lack of sleep is affecting your activities and thoughts. So, tell your dr that you're unable to sleep as well, and ask for something to help you until the Lexapro levels you out. Once you are doing better, you probably can get off sleep pills, though, I admit, it sometimes does take time. I'm glad to hear your dr is going to bring someone into his practice to deal with psych issues, definitely go for it. (((((((HUGS)))))) I hope every new day is better than yesterday.

Kenya....gosh girl I just adore you. Your honesty is truly amazing to me and has helped me in so many ways. I have read many of your posts from the past & I just love what you have to say and what you have gone through. Good things and bad help all of us! Just keep chatting on here even when you don't feel like it. Sounds like you are really going through a spell of depression. I am glad that you are able to get back on the anti-depressant. I am a 14 year Zoloft taker & I truly believe it saved my life! I have good days & bad days still but I do not get to that LOW place that I once was. Just hang in there Kenya and keep talking to your Dr. & us about your needs. |

LOL Kenya the 6 month comment makes me so glad you found another PCP. I understand that med is very expensive if you dont have insurance. I understand why you wanted to wean off of it also. As you can see you need it right now. I know when they first placed me on it they told me not to take it longer than 2 weeks......... I dont remember why they did that honestly for just that time...... but I felt so much better and my son was giving me a total fit at the time I requested to be placed on it full time. As in a previous post before me she stated her depression meds was her happy pills. Well in reality they are mine to because I know I feel so much better when I take them verus not. Yes I agree with seeing the thearpist and talking out your issues if you have that chance. Take care my friend and you will be just fine. |

Years ago the doc also threw in Trazadone to be taken in the evening to help with sleep. I didn't really notice a huge difference so I stopped taking them. BIG MISTAKE!!! They may not have been doing a lot for the sleep, but they were sure needed to keep the thoughts stable! I got back on and things got better after awhile. These meds take a while to build up to the effective level and stabilize. You have to give them a chance, and not just a week or two. Side note - I was on Paxil once. When I came off, I did it with the doc's permission and followed his instructions to the letter. It was a few months of hell!! I can't imagine coming off that drug alone. The shooter a few months back at Northern Illinois University had stopped taking Paxil shortly before he killed all those people, and I can understand how he could get so crazy as to think that it was okay. DO NOT, I repeat DO NOT try to get yourself off that one alone!! It was bad enough doing it with the doctor. As the doc said, these things take time, and there is no instant I-want-it-now pill. Let these things work, and trust your doc until s/he proves unworthy of it, then get another, better one. CT

Yes Kenya. Take your meds. I thought about asking to wean off mine and my doctor said that NOW was not the time. Meaning, for the first year or so after surgery, we really need to maintain those meds especially. I am like you in so many ways. But I agree with Doc, that the depression is the reason. I probably need to up my dose.
