| Help I am loosing my best friend
Hi all, I'm new to all this, weight loss, reaching out to others, thing.
I have been cleared for surgery so I have stoped eating right because I feel I'm loosing my best friend, the only thing that has always been there, and I already miss it... Food, my best friend. Looking at you all though has given me a renewed strength but what do I do about that feeling??

Butterfly,
Food is like that best friend that really is a back stabber. The food is not really your friend, and nerves can get the best of you. Breath, breath, breath.
I never told myself--and I still don't that I could NOT have something. I would and do say, "If it's that important, you can have it tomorow--or next week etc." Then I really usually did not want it then. When I got off the whites (white flour, sugar, potaotos etc.) I did not have the food is leaving me cravings.
Good luvk!

you will start eating to live, versus living to eat....start seeing food as fuel....find solace in exercise....after surgery, you will have a new lease on life and have energy to get out and focus on other things besides food!

I used to love honey buns....but in all honesty, it's no longer appealing...it's like after surgery, because you are eating healthier...you no longer want some of that stuff...you can ACTUALLY taste the grease/fat in things....

You will also find after surgery things are much too sweet. But for now, get off the white carbs. It will help tremendously.

What you eat for breakfast will determine what cravings you have all day. If you eat a high protein breakfast then the carb cravings usually are not that intense. Food was once all our best friend. Look at my post Ode to my body. It pretty much sums up how I feel about my body. It is not easy but if you have support you'll find your way. Good luck.

Welcome to the board, thank you for joining us.
Think this way, is what you crave really worth it all, because, it is one of the things that brought you to the place where you are contemplating surgery now.
On another note, do not think of *replacing* one thing will another, this may bring on a new and unhealthy cross addiction if you are not careful. Rather, think of developing new and healthy habits and life style
(((((HUGS))))) May your journey go well.

Know this feeling well. But now at 19 mo. out I find that I can look at food I used to crave and may try a bite and find that it just doesn't taste the same. Seems I crave protien, esp. shrimp, so I keep lots of protien on hand.
I used to be a sweet lover, now everything seems too sweet. Funny how this "tool" shows our bodies what we need.
So far my pouch is same size as just past surgery. Had scope done and Dr. said it looks good, but you can eat a little more at a time. Well tell that to Miss Priss. LOL
She just won't take it. I eat 6x a day to get all my needs in, and you must take all your vitamins. My last labs showed I'm right on target.
I feel great, can do so much more.
You will be a winner. We'll cheer ya on.
Take care,
Kathy
