Didn't fess up to WLS, felt guilty!!

This weekend I went to a Cat Show with my older daughter. There were a couple of women who I know and haven't seen for almost a year. One said you lost weight (I was happy she noticed, but then the question "HOW DID YOU DO IT?", up to this point I've told everyone I've had WLS, but this time my guard went up. I took a page from CT, so I said eating more protein and less carbs, She asked "Is it Atkins or South Beach Diet?", I said no, the irony is I did Atkins when it first came out in the 70's. but I responded eating less. I felt a little guilty but I guess I felt I was going to have to defend my decision on WLS. I looked at my daughter and she said nothing. Later she said, she it was watching for my clue and it was my decision. But she didn't blame me for not telling, she has defended me to a couple of people, saying she remembers me struggling with weight her whole life, ups and down. Smart girl !!

Alt Weight Loss Surgery Insurance
Yes, you can often get insurance cover for your Weight Loss Surgery.
Our own Craig "Big-T" Thompson has been there and done that, and he's written an e-book about it.

I can totally relate. I tell everyone at church who asks now. But the other day when I was in the store I used to frequent a lot I seen an employee there who said YOU LOST A LOT OF WEIGHT! How did you do it?! I felt I didn't want to tell her the truth. I said eating A LOT LESS (it's true..lol) and exercising. She was like going on and on how she tries to lose weight, mind you she is far from over weight. I just was waiting for her to leave me alone. Not that I didn't like her but I was feeling guilty. Just something inside me told me not to tell her the truth. She was very sweet and all it was just the guilt..lol!
To top it off we went back to that store last night and there she was again this time as I was walking up she was telling another co worker of hers how much weight I lost and describing the old me to her, she was like..yea her face was really big and she was big..lol( I almost got offended...LOL!!) and they were both talking about it and to my husband..lol! My husband was just like ...yea she worked really hard at it and eats right now...poor man..LOL!!!
Hopefully it will die down and I won't be the main attraction to her anymore. She is so sweet♥

Maybe it's just the rebel in me.... but I'll tell anybody how I lost the weight! I'd gotten to the point in my life where I just finally realized that what other people think or say about me isn't as important as how I think and feel about myself. So, maybe, somewhere in the back of my mind, I tell people how I lost the weight and just DARE them to say anything negative about it! haha

I would NEVER downplay anyone else's decision to not tell how the weight loss was achieved, however you feel most comfortable... I say you go for it. But I think maybe sometimes I'm just so happy it's gone, I don't care WHO knows it! haha

Good for you. It's important to do what is best for you. For me informing others isn't about worrying about what others think...I don't care what anyone thinks about me...for me this journey is intensely personal. Period. Please don't feel guilty or obligated to share any information with anyone unless you want to.

I tell how I lost my weight so far. I always have a defensive kind of shadow hanging out behind me waiting to have to pounce back at someone, but so far nobody has said anything to me negative. Most people who know me have known me my whole life and saw my ups and downs in weight and especially the past 15 or so years when I weighed my most, they are all seeming happy that I even bothered to try to lose weight so they haven't talked about how I did it, at least not to my face.

The same here, RC. I think most of the responses I've gotten are people who are just happy for my success. There was one girl at work who was nasty to me, but that's just because she said she didn't want me to be smaller than her. haha Tough s**t! I wasn't about to stop progress because she was insecure in herself. It really went downhill for her because she found out she was pregnant just when she realized I was gaining on her! haha Needless to say, I am now smaller than her.

I am leary about how I'm going to respond to that questions too. I guess it depends on who's asking and if its somebody I feel cares about me. If so, I'll tell them the truth. If not, I think I'll tell them I'm on the cabbage soup diet!

Hi, everyone has something very well, and yes it's up to you who you want to tell or not tell. And you are always going to have someone try to show you up, but who cares it's how you feel about yourself that matters.
Have a great day!
Judy

Doris and Brandy - YOU DID NOT LIE!!! You withheld some of the truth for good and sufficient reasons of your own. Which is your right. You're the ones who've put your butts on the line (literally!! ) and done the hard work to achieve the smashing results you have. By what right do they claim complete access to your full life history?

There is no cause for guilt, shame, or regrets for not spilling every gory detail. It's your story. How and to whom you tell it is your choice. I think you both handled it beautifully! I've done the same thing myself on occasion.

Nope you didnt lie what so ever. Not at all. Im proud of you.

You know im one that told anyone that would listen. Im a person that watches body language alot eyes etc.... most will say nothing but ok. Then you have those that praise it and then you have some that well... can be nasty. After CT first wrote about what he says long ago...... I have resorted to that myself.

Nope no lying. The ones you get a weird vibe from are the ones that are just a tad overwieght nothing to be upset about but just a tad. Its like its on there mind constantly. I dont know but your telling the truth when you say im eating more protien etc...

So CT thank you again for making that statment a while back and many have heeded your advice. Now tell me how to get it accross for them not to weigh themselfs constantly? LOL
