Unhappy the dreaded first stall

I knew this would be coming...the dreaded first stall.

I had hoped it would be another month before I hit it, but apparently it is happening 3 months post op.

I have been 204 since Friday. That is not entirely true, because two days I've gone up to 205 and then back to 204!

I am disappointed, but not freaking out. I know this is part of it, and from what I've read, there are more to come.

I had set a mini goal to reach "Onederland" by the time I go back to my old job. That is less than 2 weeks away. I was loosing 3 lbs per week. This week, zilch, none, nada....

Before people ask, yes, I'm doing the rules, yes I'm getting in the water, yes, I'm doing my protein and vitamins...

Just wanted to share the disappointment of the inevitable...the dreaded first stall....

Yes, you can often get insurance cover for your Weight Loss Surgery.
Our own Craig "Big-T" Thompson has been there and done that, and he's written an e-book about it.

3 months? mine seems to be happening at 3 weeks!! AND I was still on liquids up to last night. I have been losing consistently for 6 weeks (4 weeks pre op) and this week not a freaking thing. I am hoping that it is because of that wonderful thing that happens to us women every month. Which, btw, I was shocked to find that it arrived 28 days after the last one. Shocked because this is the first time in over 15 years I am not on Birth control pills. I was always irregular, and was hoping it would just stay away, but noooooo, right on time!

Dr. Mel and all of the others that use the scale to determine whether or not we are happy about our weightless or feel that we are stalling: SLOWLY, STEP OFF THE SCALE, PICK IT UP , WALK OVER TO THE WINDOW AND TOSS IT; okay, maybe that is a bit dramatic, maybe putting it on a high shelf will suffice.
As is has been said many times before, just because the numbers are not going down on the scale does not mean that you are not loosing inches, your body is changing and readjusting. A stall, especially at the short of a period after surgery, is nothing more than your body getting use to and fitting into the new constricted spaces. I am trying to think of what would be similar; a child growing, a child doesn't grow all at once, there are significant stalls but that is not, usually, because the child is not growing, it is because the body is putting together all of the parts to increase, or in our cases, decrease, the body mass.
Watching a water in a pot does not make it boil faster, it just frustrates you. Give yourself a break!!! Schedule a weekly weighing instead of a daily or hourly weighing.

It is also our body getting used to the restricted calories..thinking we are starving ourselves and holding on to everything(at least that is what was said at our support group last night)...remember it's not only the scale but the inches (:

As you can see Dr. Mel our surgeries were really close together....I also am going through a stall. In the last 2 weeks up or down 1 to 2 lbs. But I'm going to keep following my rules and cross my fingers all will be well!!!

Hang in there lady. This too shall pass. Watch your inches get less during this time. Your body just needs a little break to rearrange things.. You are doing great...

Hi Dr. Mel... I'm new here but I just wanted to say WOW!! 60 pounds in 3 months!! You must be doing something right! Congratulations, and I'm sure that you will reach "onederland" (I like that!!) before you know it. What a wonderful support system there is here.

Stick with it Mel.
I try to get on the scale twice a week..no more and sometimes less.
You really cant toss that damn thing, but I know I can't "live" by it.
You are doing great following all of your rules.. I know I need more water a day...
and am always working on more movement and exercise.
Did you say you were returning to a old job? Good luck with that.
I enjoy reading your posts.

Spring cleaning.

You go through the house, tossing stuff into the trash and hauling it out to the curb. That makes a bunch of open space in the house, so you rearrange the furniture, change the stuff on the shelves, dust and clean, then you look at it and say "I really don't need that either ...".

Then you launch into another round of tossing stuff out, then you clean and shuffle things around, ...

Repeat until you reach your goal of a neat, clean, organized house you're glad to invite folks over to see.

Exactly the same thing with a stall, but with a higher, some might say "obsessive", or even "unhealthy", element of emotional investment.

You are a passenger. Get used to it. Your body is in control. Your role is to follow the rules as Dr. Mel has said. All you can do is give your body what it needs to do its best for you. Then step back and watch. When it's ready, on its own schedule, it'll start up again and do its thing.

Follow the rules and possess your souls in patience.

AND STEP AWAY FROM THE @#$%*&!!! SCALES!!! This is why we tell everyone they need to measure themselves before their surgery. You all did, didn't you????

measure the inches you lost, check out the clothes that fit you better, the muscle weight you probably added to the equation ...

But think about this more than anything else: It took you years and years to put on the weight and you expect to see it melt away in a matter of months.

It does melt away pretty darn fast as a matter of fact and your body will naturally adjust to that loss in may ways including these stalls. It is important that it does or there could be other problems with loosing so much so quickly.

Easy for many of us to comment on this having gone through the process but each of us will readily admit that at times we too were guilty of weighing ourselves daily and sometimes even hourly expecting to see change.

I only had to do that a few times before I put away my scale for 3 months at a time before pulling it out and seeing the change.

Just think about what you are going to do with your life after you loose much of your excess weight, reach your ideal weight and no longer weigh yourself to see changes.

Well I guess you might list your scale on eBay and make $5 bucks.
