(i finally found one of the poems that i won an award through the alternate school)

Close your eyes and picture your life,
in a land very far from here.
You had no choice but to become his wife,
and every day you live in fear

You are not allowed to speak,
unless he gives his leave.
You have to work until you're weak,
until you can hardly breathe.

If you were to speak your mind,
you know you would be beaten.
And very soon you'd find,
your own will start to weaken.

You can not walk along the street,
and meet the gaze of others.
Your head is bowed in defeat,
while at your side he hovers.

While he's at work you must stay home,
and dream of a place where your free.
Maybe when your children are grown,
You'll take the chance and flee.

If a girl is your first child,
he may kill her in a rage.
You know that he would go wild,
so you keep your heart in a cage.

You have no choices to make,
they are all made for you.
You must obey for survival's sake,
and do what you are told to do.

Now come back to this great land,
and count your blessings every one.
You are free to take a stand,
free to walk under the sun.

No one forces you to do things,
that go against your will.
Because of freedom your heart sings,
your mind and soul are still.

You can choose who you will be,
and choose the path you take.
Now aren't you glad you're free?
let's give a cheer for freedom's sake!
