I am only at the beginning of my journey (6 days post-op), but I just wanted to give you a (((((hug))))) and say that you have come such a long way in 2 years! I am sure that trying to keep working everything as you should gets very tiring, but don't lose sight of the incredible 203lbs you have shed already! Can you arrange a 'booster' session with the psychologist and nutritionist attached to your surgeon's clinic? If not, maybe arrange a few sessions with a local therapist who could help you to understand any blocks in place currently to progressing with the final pounds of your journey?
You are an inspiration xx

Congrats on losing and keeping off over 200 pounds! That is such an accomplishment you should be proud of yourself. I reached my goal at 1 1/2 years out so I didn't need to try to lose more after the 2 year mark, but I know my weight loss slowed way down after the first year. I've just been working on maintaining my loss.
So I agree that it seems like you can eat more for a little while without gaining any weight back but eventually the scale will start creeping up. It seems like our bodies get to a number it likes and will do it's best to stay there, even if we eat a little more. But it also doesn't want to go down either.
You should think about the basic rules and see if you've been breaking them a little. Have you started drinking with your meals? Are you snacking in between meals? How's your protien (60 grams or better)? Water (at least 64 oz)? Try journaling your food for a week and see if you are on track or need to readjust.
Hang in there and be proud of all you have done.

Hi there. I agree with Barb on this. We are both over 4 years out and you have done great losing over 200 pounds and keeping that off. You just have to follow the same rules. Perhaps go on back to your Dr and say ok Doc what next? Your 65 away from your goal. Mine slowed down but I lost well into the 2 year mark but that was me. I will admit once I walked more it sped up for me and it come off like water. Its the difference in what you do. Think about what your acutally doing right now.

I've been in the same exact place lately. I had been at a total standstill, but more than the pounds on the scale, I was starting to feel out of control again and was beating myself up about it and I hate that.
I've been reading a lot, have reviewed the rules, am now trying to follow them diligently and am journalling my food, which has all helped.

Do you have a support group you can go to? It really can help with accountability. Focus on the positives. You've lost 200#!!!!!!!!!!!!! You are almost 1/2 the woman you used to be (physically). My weight loss has been reduced to a snail's pace and I'm only 10mo out, but we're in the home stretch. When your weight was coming off, what were you doing then that you aren't doing now? Review the basics. Talk to your dietitian and have faith that your body will continue to work for you. I'm sure you can do SO much more stuff at 265 than you did at 468 - be proud of that; go out and live some life!

Oh yea...I can absolutely relate to your post. I said the same thing a few days ago about re-gaining. On top of the fact that I am past 2 years out...losing is at a snail's pace. Plus you start living life again and take your eyes off the prize. That is all it takes for the pounds to sneak back. We need to be careful and watch our diets and the food we buy and how we prepare it as well. Vigilance... is the answer !!

Congrats on losing over 200 lbs. Yes, review the rules, measure your foods again to make sure eyeballing has not gotten out of hand. Never take anything for granted, but if you are diligent, you will get the prize you want.

First did you know that depression makes your metabolism slow down and you can't lose weight while you are depressed? Sooo that is the first step! The surgery taught you what you needed to learn so you know what to eat. Portion size is something only you can answer as well as what you are eating. If you are eating more then you have to move more to compensate just to maintain. If you want to lose then you should look at your exercise routine and see if you can modify it. How is your muscle mass? Remember muscle helps your body burn fat so you need to build muscle if you lost a lot with the weight loss. Make sure you are doing weights as well as cardio for exercise. If you want a jump start then go back to the beginning and start over with a week of liquids to flush your system. It won't be easy but it will help shrink your pouch and reduce your portion size back down to a smaller amount. If you can follow with a week of soft foods that would be great but if it's too hard then okay. That is my suggestion if you are stuck and need a jump start. This has worked for many people in your same situation. I am 8 years post op and in touch with many bypass patients across the country through several support and recovery groups. Happy Holidays - Kim
