Default Sigh....

My time to vent again yall...... sorry if you don't wanna see it perhaps close it now..

I have spoke to yall about me having a bad right knee. I knew I had limitations for the rest of my life already like not climbing steps, hills making sure I make my bedroom on the lower floor of my home if its upstairs etc.....

I went to my Otho Dr today because my elbow has been bothering me now for a couple months. I also wanted him to check my knee because its wanting to hurt again. The elbow is a bad case of tennis elbow. I got a cortisone shot in it. Of course that always hurts badly.

When he checked my knee........even more bad news. He had told me a
couple years ago it was a possibility that he would have to replace it. But of course it would be years before they agree to do it. You have to be 60 because the length of time these things last is 20 years. He did say they would do them in 50 year old on occasion.

He said Vickie your knee is just shot. You have the swelling back and your knee cap is just all to pieces. You have so much arthritis in it. There is a big surgery they can do on it eventually before the replacement but he told me its horrible pain and I would be outta work at least 3 months.

He told me he was gonna start with Synvisc injections right now. Once a week for 3 weeks. I wont be able to go back to work once they inject for the rest of the day and I would need a driver. This is like a lube for the joint they hope will help me for a while. He said it would last on me about 6 months until they would evaluate it again. That is depressing in itself.

The thing that has me so upset right now is when he told me that I can no longer do floor work. Im a nurse. I am to just sit behind a desk from now on if I wanna keep what use I have of my knee. That just literally broke my heart. Yes some nurses set behind a desk all day doing administrative work, but that is not ME! I love working with patients running around helping where ever I can. I went to school for this. This was my passion ever since I was a child. I worked hard in college for this. I was top of my class in clinical and books. Now ......im gonna have to set the rest of my life behind a desk and leave that part of nursing behind me. My poor hubby don't know how to comfort me about this and I have no idea how to comfort myself.

The Doc told me the reason he didn't tell me this part when I had my surgery was because there is always hope that you might still can do Alot on the knee but.....in my case its just not possible anymore. I was like Doc you know Im having gastric bypass in September surely I could go back and work the floor after that? He tells me no. He said Vickie if you weighed a 110 pounds your knee would still be this way even if you had weighed this your entire life. Between a genetic problem and injury's to the knee the weight really had nothing to do with it.

This is like I have totally lost a part of me. My skills and my compassion for this job is just... i don't know the word. Its a big part of my world.

OK Im done whining.

Alt Weight Loss Surgery Insurance
Yes, you can often get insurance cover for your Weight Loss Surgery.
Our own Craig "Big-T" Thompson has been there and done that, and he's written an e-book about it.

I am so sorry to hear this MsVicki. Nurses are such devoted people and I hate to think that you can't do the part of nursing that you love the most.

I don't understand why you can't go ahead and have a knee replacement. I know they don't like to do it on younger people but when your quality of life is affected so drastically, they should reconsider. My brother had knee replacement surgery at 25 and had to have it done a second time at 48. He is now 59 and going strong on the knee. Such strides have been made since his first that he was amazed how much easier it was on him.

I hope you can find a solution to your problem.

Awwww, (((((((HUGS))))))))
This may be hard on you now, but get your WLS done first, and drop off your weight.
Even if what your Otho dr told you is pretty final, you never know what door will open for you, instead of the one that just closed.
Remember, with every bad, there is a seed of good. Keep your eyes open for that little seed, and tend to it, nuture it, raise it carefully, and it will become the most beautiful tree that you have ever known.
You are on the doorsteps of a new life for you. Your shot knee may be the key to open a new door that goes with your new life.
(((((((HUGS))))))) May your journey go well, and I am sure God will give you guidance where you need.

OK. MsVickie, You have us all here listening to you whine. But that's what we are all here for. For the good times and the bad times. Somewhere in all of this God has a plan for you. It's like the kid that can see in the medicine cabinet and wants the pretty red bottle of pills. He wants it soooo bad, but he cannot reach it. God is protecting him from his own wants and desires. DocSanae is right this may open new avenues for you that you have not even thought of. Pray for guidance and strength and his will to be done.

Oh and I would definitely get another opinion. You are strong and will be fine no matter what. Mattie

I completely agree about new doors opening. God always turns bad to good whether he guides us that way or whether we brought us to a certain point incorrectly and he gently steers us. This is definitely one of those things that you can't avoid but God knows where it will lead and it will be great in the end. better than can even be imagined. Hang in there.
