When you made the post questioning plastics.....I myself wondered that. Being a nurse I thought I would reseach it some. But then I didnt have to. I picked up a Medical magizine yesterday and found it right in front of my eyes. This is the answer: The word "plastic" comes from the Greek word plastikos, meaning "to mold or shape." Many of the first plastic surgeries were developed to close a difficult wound or replace tissue lost due to injury or cancer. These procedures often involved the formation of a skin flap to reshape or mold the defect so as to approximate the original shape. Now alot of Medical terms mean somthing totally different than what we are used to. To give an example is the new Trucks that have HEMI wrote on them. In the medical field it means HALF. I have to giggle each time I see a truck with it wrote on it. When I first seen it i said honey why do they announce its half a truck? He said what are you talking about that is not what it means? LOL  |
