Well, this has been an interesting day. I seriously started my pre op liquid diet today and its not easy. I've had my protein drink, lots of water, coffee, soup(s), jello and a yogurt -- but I miss the "chewing" -- so what is Sonic Ice???

I didnt have to do liquid diet but only for the day before surgery. So I can feel for you. I dont think I could have done it much more than that. Dont know what sonic ice is though. I will have to keep tuned to see what they say it is.

Sonic is a little "fast food" place that has the good crushed/slivered ice pieces. Good for chewing!!!! ~wink~ Hang in there, you can do it Jill. I had to do a 10 day CLEAR liquid diet before, so I didn't even get the soups or yogurt. I think I was just SOOO afraid of having the surgery done, THAT was my motivation to get thru it. I also had to quit smoking 1 month before surgery. It was a struggle, but I managed to get thru it. Just keep reminding yourself you HAVE to do this to be safe!

hey congrats on starting. i know it muct be tough. i didnt have to do it. and dont think i would have been able to to be honest so kudos to you! yeah sonic is a fast food joint (they have good stuff there lol) i think they have it in SC if i recall. I am not familiar with the part you are in, but my family is in camden and theres one there lol!

Oh my gosh -- I quit smoking seven years ago and that was BRUTAL -- there is no way I could have done that AND this. I had to eat heaps of chocolate just to get through the nicotine withdrawal. God love you -- you are so strong! Now that I know what Sonic ice is -- there's one right down the street from me -- but I guess my crushed ice will work just as well. Thanks!

I feel your pain. I am on the liquid thing too and it's driving me crazy. I have been doing it since Monday. I do good during the day with my protein drinks, applesauce and cream of chick soup but by the evening I could eat a horse. The sonic thing is a good idea. You can buy bags of that ice from the Sonics here in GA. I think I will pick up a bag today. Try that and see if that helps. I know I am.

i only did the liquid diet for one day and had a headache the whole day,i'm 4 days out of surgery and that day with clear liquids was the worst so far

I had to do the clear liquid two week diet TWICE! The first time I did wonderfully. Yes, I had headaches in the beginning from withdrawals, and yes, there were days I was hungry. I just ate more clear broth, or more sf jello, or if I felt weak, I would drink another protein shake (though you cant mix it with milk if you are on clear liquid diet). I lost 25 lbs from that two week period alone! Then I had to do it again because my surgery was cancelled (thats another post). The second time was even harder than the first. I cheated tons. I dont recommend this though. When you follow the liquid diet, in addition to preparing you for post op, it also shrinks the swelling of your intestinal track and other organs. This makes it easier for the surgeon to move around inside and means longer time under anesthesia which means easier to recover. I put up a picture of a formal gown I want to wear in Oct. to my brothers wedding at work as inspiration! At home, I put a huge picture of my daughter on the fridge. Find your inspiration and keep up the good work! We are here for you - and we know you can do it! |
