Exclamation Looking in to RNY Surgery

Good Morning Everyone,I am new to all of this so please forgive me if I ask anything stupid. First of all I have my Bypass orientation on Sept 4, 2007. I really don't know if all my questions will get answered. I also don't really know what to expect from the orientation. I am a bit scared yet fully want to go through with the surgery. Does anyone know if or where their is a support group in the Sacramento, CA Area? I have several close friends who have had successful surgeries & weight loss. If anyone has any advise they would like to share with me to help incourage me it would be very helpful.PS I have done a lot of research on the Gastric Bypass & I would really like to know any information that you feel was left out of your orientation or surgery process that would have been beneficial knowing before your surgery took place.

Sincerely, Edna ---Character may be manifested in the great moments, but it is made in the small ones.

Alt Weight Loss Surgery Insurance
Yes, you can often get insurance cover for your Weight Loss Surgery.
Our own Craig "Big-T" Thompson has been there and done that, and he's written an e-book about it.

Welcome to the boards! Sit back and stay a while! As I am sure that you already know, everyone has something different to share with you. And each surgeon is totally different in how they want things done. I am almost 4 weeks out and have had no problems what so ever. I would suggest any questions that you have now, to write them down and take them with you to the consult. I wish you the best of luck!!!

Orientation is the first step. You will come up with so many questions (after it of course thats usually when they come!) but welcome to the boards! you'll also find al ot of information on here as well.

sorry i dont know about support groups in your area as i am on the east coast if you google weight loss surgey or gastric bypass support groups, im sure something will pop up. also usually the surgery center or hospital will have a group that meets monthly as well. ask at your orientation.

good luck on the journey!!

Edna, Welcome to this forum, you will find lots of information and really great people to ask all the questions you have -- none are stupid -- we all have been there and its great to have the experience of the people on this board to help us through. I used to live in Folsom -- so its good to see someone from Sacramento. I would bet that UC Davis has some sort of a program on WLS and some sort of support group formed in the area. Try their website. I just had my surgery on August 14th and I firmly believe it is the BEST THING I HAVE EVER DONE for myself! I have lost that insane feeling of being hungry. I am eating an average of only 700 calories a day where I used to easily eat over 3000. And I have lost 24 lbs to date! I feel great and I know that the surgery will have a lasting impact on my life in a very positive way. I tried every diet known to mankind over the years and for the first time I can h onestly say I know I am going to lose weight and keep it off forever! I wish you the best in your discovery and along the journey!

Welcome Edna to the boards. sorry but I am also on the east coast too. Use to visit out that way in Citrus Heights for many years when my grandmother lived out there. but like the ladies said, Im sure if you google it or check with your local hospital tthat does the surgeries they may have a support group of some kind. Mine does. however i have found this site to be the greatest support for me.
My surgery has gone very well also. I am just almost 5 months out and knock on wood Im doing well and havent had any problems. Every surgeon is different and questions will come up as you go thru the process. always jot down your questions. I would say the only thing that I wasnt prepared for as much as I didnt think was gonna be a big deal was the mental side of it. Yeah I had a phych appoitment but this does play alot on your mind and things are drastically different. So I can honestly say that was the hardest part for me.
Once again, welcome to the boards Edna.

Welcome to the board, thank you for joining us.
Just attend the orientation first, you are likely to come up with lots of questions then, and you probably will have multiple chances to ask them, too.
((((((HUGS)))))) May your journey go well.
