My hubby is trying his best to get me things I can have right now. With my drain and still being so weak he went to Walmart today without me. Of course hes looking for things I can have. I have spoke alot about No Sugar Added stuff versues sugar free because of my joint pain and artifical sweeteners. I have my surgeons blessing on this being a good idea for me considering he is believing this himself with other patients. Anyways........ He found a box of Blue Bunnie no sugar added Mules. You know the kind diped in choclate on a stick. These were chocalte to begin with then dipped. Im such a baby right now i leave my ice pops in a bowl until they start to melt then eat on them. I did this with this icecream to. Im not a really big fan of choclate but I love Mules. It was good but I just didnt like it. To much choclate for me. The taste was actually really good considering. When asking him to eat it for me ...he said ok somthing else I bought for myself i see and laughed. Bless his heart. The other day he bought me weight watcher brand yougart. It had Splenda in it. I did try one and felt it bad the next day. So this went to him to. My meals consitst of Strained soup, Yougart very little of this and V8 juice. A popcicle a couple times a day no sugar added of course and water. The hospital give me italian ice each meal to to the extent I can stomach it now because I just had so much of it. Yall got any more suggestions for me to add. I think I will have to stay on this until Next Thursady when seeing the surgeon again. He suggested beef and chicken bullion. I cant tolerate the chicken one yet. I can the beef bullion but thenI worry about the sodium content. Would beef broth be a better choice? |

they have low sodium broths. i did well with those. i think i used swanson. i still do sometimes. i also use the broth from unjury. i dont know if you can have that though. you cant do chemicals right? and you can add seasoning to the swanson one if you dont care for the taste (just strain it out). also the creamy soups in low sodium were good. the cream of chicken worked VERY WELL for me. um...can you do jello or jello pudding? its hard because of the artificial sweeteners and then the ones with sugar have SO MUCH even if you did half a serving it might make you sick. im gonna think about this a little more. it will be easier once you can have soft moist but this stage is tough with the sweetener limitations. what are you drinking? im just curious. because you cant do crystal light and what not.... I did alot of the low sodium Tomato and Split Pea soup. That was wonderful and left me yearning to be a kid again with a grilled cheese samich! LOLOL I am hooked on the Motts No Sugar Added Applesauce. It comes in so many different flavors! Strawberry, Blueberry, Peach, Green Apple....the list goes on. I hope that you find something that works well for you. Oh yeah, runny instant oatmeal was great from the beginning for me and still is.

Have you tried home made pototoe soup. I mad it with the new pototoes and then blended them. I used skim milk and water to cook them in (I did add just a pat of butter, a little sea salt, and some black and white peper). You can make it as soupy as you want. I added the Unjury unflavored protein powder to help get my protein intake up. It was a safe staple for me at the beginning.

This is probally my most favorite feel good meal. One of those little containers are 4 meals for me. I will try the low sodium broths thanks for the suggestion. i have totally forgot about the puddings and jellos. that is somthing I never eat pre op so its not a habit to think about. Thanks again

Have you thought about making your own broth? Or, at this point having your husband make it? It is quite easy and very nutritious for you. You can control the sodium content it in that way. Here is a recipe if you are interested... 1.5 lbs oxtails 1.5 lbs shank bones 3 or 4 stalks of celery 3 or 4 carrots 1 or 2 onions about a gallon of water handful of fresh parsley Put the bones and oxtails (throw some sea salt on them too) in the oven until they are browned nicely, then place them in a big pot. Add your carrots, celery and onions. ( I just wash the carrots and celery and snap them in thirds and cut the onions in fourths.) Add about a gallon of water... that is a guesstimate because it will need to cook for about 24 hours. Bring the pot to a boil and skim the foam off the top. Turn it down to a simmer and let it cook for about 24 hours. About the last hour of cooking, throw in the fresh parsley. After you are finished cooking your broth, strain it and let it cool completely. Skim off the fat off the top. I would freeze it in small portions and when you warm it up, add some sea salt as needed. It really isn't a lot of work to make this and you know what you are putting in it instead of buying some commercially made broth. You can get the bones from a butcher or the meat department of the grocery store. You also can do chicken when you are ready by using whole chickens. Free range chickens are better because they have gelatin in their bones (from what I have read) You can use the chicken meat for other recipes. Hope this helps. Sorry about the book |
