Default Just need to vent

Okay guys I just need to vent...One of my best friends decided to get the lapband when I decided to do mmy surgery. Truly, she tried to get it done before I had mine. She is about 2 1/2 weeks out now and obviously hasn't lost like I have. Now when people come into our work and start talking about how great I am looking (I have lost @ 60 lbs in 2 1/2 months) she tries to make me feel guilty for getting compliments when noone notices she has changed. I tried to tell her before she had this surgery that she would reach her goal in about 2-3 years where mine should take 1-2 years. Her parents are Dr and they were paying for her surgery so she did what they wanted. I don't want to be rude to her because I am proud of her for making this commitment but I can't take much more of her guilt trips. In addition she is starving and when people offer to bring in food she tells them..."We can't eat that" The other day she turned something down on my behalf which I have been craving for days!!!! thanks for letting me ramble and vent. You all have a great evening.

Alt Weight Loss Surgery Insurance
Yes, you can often get insurance cover for your Weight Loss Surgery.
Our own Craig "Big-T" Thompson has been there and done that, and he's written an e-book about it.

Awww (((((HUGS)))))
I wonder, is she doing good with her diet when no one is around? Since lap banders can *cheat* much more earlier and easier than bypass, this could be the cause of her not losing as well as she wants to.

It's funny Tina..but I've had a similar experience with a lapbander. I did several clinicals in the e/r and one of the r/n's had the lapband. Well one of the guy rn's told her about how I'd had the bypass and she went OFF about that. wow..

She was NOT happy with her choice, said it was the only one insurance would pay for, she'd had it for year and lost 60lbs. Man did she make my e/r time miserable when she was on..she gave me these hateful looks. Plus she gave me all the crap work, which since it was paramedic clinics wasn't appropriate. Plus she had the hardest time with eating she'd vomit all the time after eating...her dinner was kids portion of chicken mcnuggets from McDonalds.

*shrugs shoulders* go figure.

Like the doc said they can 'cheat' easier and earlier. Plus most of what I've heard the last couple of years when I ask questions is they never go back for fills or follow ups. They get it done and think that's it!

(note: of course this e/r time was while I was training so I was very small and very fit..so to hear I'd lost 200 lbs at just 2 yrs out pissed her off royally)

Red face Tina!!!!!!

WOW....one of my best friends also had LB surgery about 6mos. after I had RNY....by that time I'd lost 111#'s....and now when she hit her 6mos post op...she's lost 50#'s which is great for her....but I could hear she was soooo disappointment.

It's lead to MANY authentic conversations between the two of us about her thoughts and feelings about weight loss and food. She's honestly said she's cheated...and shared that she's not being as "GOOD" as she knows she 'could be.'
ALSO....she realizes her in-authenticity and tried to cover it up...but now is looking in all corners of the inner work she has left to do. Like the doc said they can 'cheat' easier and earlier. She also admitted she thought it would 'work' a lot easier than it has.

Hang in there in supporting your friend the best you can...and feel NO GUILT for your amazing accomplishment...you've done wonderfully and deserve all the praise!! Congrats!!

My step-sister had lap band in January...she's lost nearly 60 pounds...I had my surgery 2.5 months ago...I've lost 56 pounds. She's always looking at me with this strange look. She took the Mexico way out (she went across the border to have the surgery). I had mine here by a very reputable surgeon. I told her mom I would probably pass her up in weight loss quickly, as I had done my homework and knew the statistics.

She does ALL kinds of things we aren't supposed to (drinks TONS of beer & doesn't get adjusted very often). I don't feel guilty for her choice, but I'm not around her that much, and she's NOT out there making choices for me.

Thanks everyone...Doc yuo are right she admitted to me yesterday that she had already cheated. In addition I have talked to her about her secret eating. I think she did this surgery to passify her parents where as I did mine because I thought I had a heart attack in February. Unfortunately, she even gained weight to be approved for surgery. I pray for her...Thanks everyone for letting me vent this way I didn't say anything mean to her and I can continue being supportive.

This just comes back to choice. It was her CHOICE to have the lap band. I still for the life of me dont see how anyone can do that band if they ever held that thing in their hands.
