Default Nervous but Excited

Hi everyone! my name is Christina, and I made up my mind i'm sick and tired of being overweight! I have choosen to do a self pay Vertical Gastrectomy... I have choosen this procedure because Gastric seems way too scary and Lap band is invasive and having a foreign object inside my tummy seems strange...plus with Vertical Gastrectomy since i am just 22 and if anything horrible happens (weight regain! lol) I can get a DS in the later years if needed..

anyways.. Yesterday was my first visit to the doctor & nutritionist..next step is psyc eval and bloodwork.. then next month i'm back for my second visit!

i'm very nervous and excited at the same time.. just seems I need to do alot to get ready for the Surgery...my Doctor, Dr. Von Ruden of Towson MD said my surgery can be from December 1st to Feb 1st... since i am self pay - omg so excited..

but i have a question does anyone know anyone who had the Vertical Gastrectomy surgery? It seems the main precentage of memebers here had the Gastric Y

thanks!

Alt Weight Loss Surgery Insurance
Yes, you can often get insurance cover for your Weight Loss Surgery.
Our own Craig "Big-T" Thompson has been there and done that, and he's written an e-book about it.

Welcome to the board, thank you for joining us.
Good luck with everything ((((((HUGS))))) May your journey go well.

I think applesauce was to have sleeve gastrectomy (which is another name for vertical gastrectomy, so do a search fro that) and a few others.
bingoklee had it as revision for gastric bypass, but he had some post op problems, and we haven't heard from him for a couple of months now. I am wondering where he is and how he is doing now.

thank you for the welcome! Yeah, it seems Sleeving is the lesser of the three procedures and not many ppl have had it yet , but from all the research i have been doing it seems this one suits me best because of my fear of foreign objects (lap) and malnutrition (Gastric Y)

now with bingoklee's revision does that mean it was done after they had the first procedure or they had it done after?

thanks!

bingoklee had gastric bypass first, that did not work because the first surgeon did a bad job of it. So, he had the bypass completely revised and the pouch, stomach and bypass all reconnected as they should be, then had the sleeve gastrectomy.

How exciting for you!!

I actually considered the sleeve initially. Most of the surgeons I talked to indicated it was a pre-emptive to Duodenal Switch, which would have caused MORE weight loss than I was prepared for (plus facing 2 surgeries). I was not comfy with the band either...that foreign body thing and all the adjustments. I figured the gastric bypass was kinda in the middle....and it turned out to be the perfect solution for me!

Keep us posted on your date...and welcome aboard!
